I make 15 to 20 stops per day ( 170 to 200 miles) for $22.30/Hour.I work the airport area (O'hare) Working with Freight forwarders is a nightmare yet,I still manage to do my stops daily. The company is taking advantage of me @ $22.30.every driver I talked to makes $25 to $30/hour.My company is not going to pay me that kind of money, they would rather let the their best driver go...I logged 23 years with these guys,The only reason I stayed with them is because I like the job I'm doing.I like to drive a Truck, but for $22.30? Man ,I'm getting ripped off.
Is it worth it to quit a 23 YEARS steady job for Intermodal job ?

Do you like your current job or is it like a bad habit that's hard to break?

I have been number one in seniority for so many years (over 100 company drivers) every new driver that comes through our doors asked me :how the hell you stay with this company for so long?I like the job but I'm ready to move on...@22.30/h is not worth it anymore.I'm exploring every possible options ,Estes Trucking is one of them if I don't go owner operator.Chinatown Thanks this. -
One of the things that frustrate me at my current company is all the complaining about how little we are paid hourly vs some other companies at the plant.
While it is true one other company the drivers make more on a per hourly basis, taken into the account of they are 1099 while we are legal and we get insurance for $9 week. Insurance alone is almost a $2 / hr "raise".
All I'm advising is make sure to compare everything before making the jump. Who knows, you might actually be able to get a better paying job. -
As an owner-operator, all the benefits such as healthcare, retirement, social security contributions, taxes, are his responsibility. Then all the overhead for running a small business is out of his pocket. -
Stay with your company job
