Are the newer trucks really that bad, no longevity anymore?

They’ve had 9 years working with and tweaking the same emission systems. It’s not like it was when thing were changing every couple years.

And when they do the starting point will already be a long ways ahead of where they were starting from in 2004 with the first egr engines and Acert Cats.SavageMuffin Thanks this.

Thats not really a fair comparison. Thats like saying everyone should walk everywhere, as motorized vehicles are dangerous. The deal is..the more stuff, be it a fangled variable geometry turbo, sensors, dpf fluid and the pump etc that goes with all that ,is going to require more maintence. Look at abs systems. Most every older used car or truck has the abs light on, or the check engine light on. I hope the reliability soon becomes great. I just don't think it's there yet. Better than it was, yes. Lots of comments posted how great their equipment is doing..great! But how many miles on said equipment? 5 to 600,000. Or is it a new company truck every 2 to 3 years?

Not as the norm from my experiences. the n14s I had and the few 60's all had major work on them by 750k, a couple were lost at 450k.
One thing I think changed was the oil, better oil today than it was when these engines were made, something maybe around 2007 iirc helped a lot of these engines survive, just a thought.
