OMG, you guys are off topic. I am not mad, all of my trucks are now full. The package is impressive. There are no sour grapes, or hard feelings. As a matter of fact, I forwarded the info to Dave-AZ because he said that he'd take him. My question was more from a social stand point. When did we become a society where a job is based on the pet. That was my only point. Personally, if I were looking for a job and the right job came up, I'll be ###### if I'd miss that opportunity for a dog.
Pets ? Really?

Maybe the job DOESNT really “work for them in all ways”. And honestly, finding a job that actually DOES work (not just because you think it works), for someone really isn’t that difficult in this market.
I don’t mean that to be rude or snarky, I’m sure your job is a darn good one- but right now, jobs are like women- you lose one, you find another. Drivers market right now. Good drivers can be picky now. It’s cyclical, it’ll change back and people will stop being so selective, but right now the driver that turned you down today because of the pet issue will be rolling with their hound tomorrow. Can’t blame them for that.Midwest Trucker and Omega1 Thank this. -
I made a choice to get a dog. It is my responsibility to care for her. When I went to Hawaii she cost almost $2k when you figured in the flight there and back and all the necessary tests and everything associated with importing a dog. I could’ve dropped her at a shelter and went on about my life but I wouldn’t give up on a responsibility that is the result of a choice I made. I have a feeling that if some of you had a dog that it would end up at a shelter the first time it was an inconvenience for you to have one. I would’ve hired the guy with the dog just for the fact he chose to walk away from the job, to me that shows that he doesn’t take being responsible for his dog lightly.

Nothing fixes my disposition. My disposition is perfectly fine. I'm a Grumpy Old Man in training.
Grump grump[/QUOTE]
Grump grump grump.
Im fixing to get another Cat as soon I am medically cleared to do so. It's high time.
Ive been a grump far too long. I try to be sunshine and happy but it's a grotesque display scaring people away. -
80 K would be a dream if it need be to have no pet so be it. I'm already late and rolling to earn that 80K
Thank god here in the south you don't need that much.shogun Thanks this. -
I just hired a team with a dog. I’ve had a solo before with a dog. I handle it case by case just as I would a rider.
I look at it as if I was out over the road would I want my wife to be able to come? Yes. Would I want my dog to be able to come? Yes.
Just because your an employer, you shouldn’t lose sight of what people personal wants and needs are. After all, we are asking people to be away from home all week or more.
I find your stance insensitive, and don’t blame him for moving on. More companies then just yours pay 80k per year bud.Kala92, Dave_in_AZ, CorsairFanboy and 3 others Thank this. -

For some leaving the dog at home is not an option. Take me for example. Its just me here, when I am gone for long periods I cant leave the dog at home so if I am gone for more than a day he is going with. For me that means I only drive local. I will not sleep in a truck. Then again I make a heck of a lot more than 80k a year too.
It also means that when I travel the dog comes with. Hes ridden in the pickup all over the US. Hes been to Canada and before it got to dangerous we even drove down to Mexico once. Hes also been on planes. He's been to the Philippines 3 times now. And when I get ready to go next year again if his health is not good enough I will put off my trip until it improves or he dies. (He is already old for his breed) I have had this dog for 12 years. Life was a lot different when I first got him but that doesn't mean that I will just dump him because its less convenient to not have him. When you get an animal you make a commitment to care for that animal for the rest of its life. The fact is I prefer his company to most humans anyway.
That being said he will probably be my last dog until I retire and no longer have to come back to the US to work.
