I would like to know what can be done about a BAD school in PA? I myself, and I know others that have only had a couple (3) hours of driving on the road, and got "early" test dates, then when we passed our test, we were immediately signed out. None of the promises that were made were kept, such as followups, job promises, etc. Plus, they made us all sign a PA state CD-100 form, that if we didn't pay the loan, they would have the state of PA revoke our license. Somehow, I don't believe that was what that form was meant for. And if we refused to sign it, you were booted from the school. My schooling was 6300 dollars, and I was only there 7 weekends, and had 3 hours road time. Personally, I don't feel I should be on the road with such little time, and I wont risk anyone's life.

To add to it, the school knew up front that I needed a local job, because I am a single parent. They knew before I started that was my issue, and they said it would be a little harder, but it could be done, but to date, they have made no effort. They just want the money...

They even had talked about making me a instructor up there, then turned around and hired a 21 year old with NO road time to be a instructor. Go figure that one out.

I just need to know who to turn these clowns in to, as I am not going to stand for it anymore. Their inadequate training is causing a friend of mine to quit roehl today, and I know he is not doing the right thing, but he is scared to death to drive that thing in the city.

What can I do before they train someone that winds up killing someone?

They actually have a file cabinet full of those CD-100 forms that they force you to sign. If you refuse, they boot you out. They feel that they can do whatever they want. Plus the trucks are old, and the range trucks honestly belong put out to pasture. I had about 6 hours on the range, and 4 TOTAL out on the road. I'm sorry, but I don't feel I should be out there, plus, we never once had a loaded trailer. They said it wasn't legal.

The only thing this school has going for it is that MOST of the instructors are quality guys. everyone else, on the other hand...

And by the way, I live across the street from the school owner, who i haven't seen since I "graduated" go figure...He's too busy counting his money...:biggrin_25510:

unfortunately, PA CD-100 is a form for voluntarily giving up your commercial license, and having the state put you back to whatever class you were prior.

I know because I didn't want to sign it, nobody did, but they threaten to boot you from the school if you don't. In fact, if it isn't signed in a matter of 4 weeks, you get called into the owners office for a half hour lecture on it. and they demand it be notarized also.

As for the 21 year old, my friend graduated from there, and he had this kid as a on the road trainer. He was not overly impressed. The kid didnt have any real experience, and supposedly was hired because his dad gave the school considerable cash off of truck repairs...

as for the loan, it is simply the school giving you time to pay it off, and was backed by educational financial services. The school gets no cash except when you pay your loan, they get a monthly check for each student. Thats why they are so insistant on that CD-100.

MGASSEL, I didnt miss not one single day. All I ever had was 3 hours of road time. They said I knew what I was doing. I never once had a 45 degree alley dock. just parellel park and straight back up. the instructor who graded that picked you best out of 5 and graded on that.

    just a update,

The school is now suing me for 8200 as their payment. I don't feel I am going to pay this absurd amount, since I only got 7 hours of road time and got pushed out once I got my license. They never helped place me, never contacted me after school about jobs, and so on. I have a lot of other complaints from other former students as well.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am at my wits end here....

I have been sued, and by a truck driving school where I got a WHOLE 5 hours of behind the wheel time in a 18 wheeler...for the tune of 7800 bucks...

In short, I did attend this school, and got the little road time mentioned, when their own papers show I should have got 120 hrs. I will not drive a truck with the training I got from them, in fact, when I called one company, they laughed when I told them where I went to school, and wished me the best of luck.

The hearing is in 6 days, and I twice put in for a change of jurisdiction and was denied both times. I live in Florida, and the school is in PA. I was at the school for 7 weekends, Saturday and Sunday, for a total of 14 days of training...

Anyhow, what I need to know, since the school owner, who knew I move out of state, as he was my next door neighbor filed this case, and its in 6 days, is what move I should do next...

A - call the school, and inform them that I plan on contacting the FTC, The state attorney general, and the DOT as well? I already spoke with a DOT inspector who would LOVE to get her hands on this school, and in her words, "shut them down"

B - Alert the news media to the goings on at this place and let them launch a investigation...

C - Since I know they are going to get a default judgment, what is the next step to getting this vacated, and causing them a headache.

:biggrin_25510:This school churns them out one after the other, in total violation of the rules. I did also just find out they are NOT accredited by the PTDI.

This has become my private little battle with them, as I am a qualified bus instructor, and I am so worried about public safety now, as I know they they are kicking out of there. I had one former student tell me that he is scared to death to drive a truck, and he left one sit in Pittsburgh, and he was scared to drive it in town. Whats that tell you...

I even thought class action lawsuit on them, but have no idea how to begin.

Thanks for reading, and I would love to hear your thoughts!

well, about all you can do is contact the attorney generals offf in your state. I'm not familar with the form you memtioned but you should of never signed anything like that. there are plpenty of free schools out there you really don't need to pay for truck driver schoolo. and the average cost nation wide is 3000 to 4500 dollars. buy why pay that when you can do for free...you might conmtact a attorney get them for frud of enrollment.. I've know several driver that got out it that way. your friend should'nt quit. he just needs a litle more training.

Most of the schools out there are bad . They're all exploiting students because the odds of getting work are less every day as more students graduate and more companies go out of business or reduce their fleets .

Check for Community colleges in your neighborhood or state that offer CDL programs. Avoid these for profit business schools at all cost. Even if your state of residence agree to pays for your training make sure u find a community college. These for profit schools are beyond horrible. The one i went to was so bad i quit. They took the money the state paid and the state let em do it. They basically ripped off the tax payers for about 4000 bucks. This program was supposed to 19 days long. I was there for over 5 weeks standing in line for my daily 10 minutes in the truck. 40 students and 2 beat up trucks. Finally I gave up..

Could he post the name of the school or would that open you up to liability?? I see alot of questions on here about what schools to go to and what company trains new drivers. I think it would be interesting to hear some of the horror stories(and explain why I get backed into all the time)

I would think the DOT and DMV (or DDS, etc) would want to hear about this case. You could also check with the Better Business Bureau (if available) to see if there are any pending issues, or investigations in the works - if not, you could start one.

It would be wise to check with the state regarding that form they had you sign, and see if that's a valid and proper use for that form - given the situation. I'm sure sorry to hear about this, and I hope you can put that license to use somewhere.

There are alot of threads about finding work on this site, including looking through the phonebook for trucking companies and dropping by their depots. You can also watch for trucks running in your area, and taking down names and numbers off the doors and sides. Alot of trucks require an A or B CDL, and some aren't as difficult to manage as an 80 foot, 80,000 lb. rig. Remember that your A license qualifies you to operate anything below that class of vehicle.

I've operated different types of rigs nearly half my life, and still went to CDL school (and graduated recently) to step up to tractor/ trailer. After the experience I had, it left me to wonder how people who hadn't operated something larger than a pickup truck would do out on the big road in the weather. It's important to keep in mind that a company that hires on new graduates has a responsibility to train them, and the trainers need to do their job. No one should put a new driver out on the roads (and definitely not in the truck stops!) before they're up to the task.

Good luck and the best to you, and hope things work out for the best!

The community colleges around here, Don't offer CDL programs.
Just a few CDL schools available.

Went through one and never had to sign this form.

To the OP:Why would they hire you as a instructor with no experience?

Get sponsored from a smaller rubbish company. work Class C trucks while you are going to school. You want something done right. Do it yourself :biggrin_25520:
