What I tend to do is tap the air horn first, give a little squeak so the driver knows I'm there. I'll then blow it, yes. If I'm in a truck I can't let out a little sound by the air horn, I'll tap the city horn first. Mainly I'm making sure the driver knows I'm there so I don't startle him.
I have a feeling that driver wasn't startled so much by the air horn, as simply not realizing a truck was there until you blew the horn.
do you blow the air horn for kids?

Yep. I used to do it as a kid and it was awesome so since I know how awesome it is, I'll do it for the kids. I was at a truck stop and I was leaving, this woman stops in front of me and her kids doing it and I blew it a few times, shes waves and says thank you and leaves. I've done it in small towns and anywhere I'm at as long as its safe to do so without scaring the #### out of others around me
Bean Jr. Thanks this.
