I've located, a truck. I'm planning on finalizing the purchase on Monday. From this point what is the order of "needed to operate" steps. I want to continue pulling vans but don't object to flat bed. A guy at a container yard motivated me to purchase so that is an option but I'd like to get it from You all. Thanks in advance.
Can someone walk me through the o/o door?

the way the economy is right now... and how freight is... i would not be buying a truck but thats just me
-
How about we point to the way out the door? Buying a truck right now isn't the best idea.
-
Its not a bad idea cuz the truck orices are excellent right now. If you have a place to put the truck to work go for it if not run.
-
First of all setup work for the truck find out if you can actually pay for the truck.
-
If you close on monday and you haven't applied for authority yet, then your first payment on the truck will be due before you can haul with it (if you're financing).
Apply for authority and get insurance at the same time. Get your lettering done while waiting for Authority to go active, you'll have the numbers pretty much immediately after applying. After 3 to 4 weeks when the authority is active, then go to the DMV and be prepared to write another fat check. They also set up your IFTA account and stickers there.
Then you can roll.
If you're going to lease on somewhere then just contact them for instructions.l84work Thanks this. -
Buying a truck before you know where you are going to put it to work is like putting the cart before the horse! Not having an idea or a business plan, application pre approval..ect. might stab you in the foot..
Do you have experiance? At least 1 year verfiable OTR? If not you will find out hiring on anywhere might be difficult.. Insurance companies cannot insure you. (Unless your buying your own insurance.. That'll cost you oh give or take $3000 down..
What year truck are you looking at? A lot of companies have limits on how old equipment can be to lease on? Do you have your own trailer? Just jumping into work without one limits your choices too.. Flatbed work is usually a have your own or rent / lease one from someone.. Equipment? chains, tarps, straps, binders..ect. More $$..
Hauling containers is usually the "bottom of the barrel". That's where you'll find trucks on their last legs. Bare min. maintaince, tires, brakes.. bailing wire and duct tape...
In my opinion, I would wait.. There will always be plenty of trucks around to buy.. Knowing when to jump in and not guessing when to jump in isn't smart. This industry will chew you up and spit you out.. broke & with no credit.. maybe bankrupt? Take some time and do your homework.. you'll see..l84work Thanks this. -
I realize it seems crazy but I feel like i gotta take a chance now. With soo many companies closing I found a good truck (2004 Volvo 210k)for a good price ($38K), still under warranty. If I make 25% more (after expenses) than I make as a company driver I can have it paid within the next year. Thanks for the direction...ha ha ha I know I have alot to learn and it seems I F'd up in order already. I'm gonna chase this authority.
Hey Gonzo-stay with me through this I'm gonna need your help
