runnin my IH 9900 with the 60 series Detroit ran fine hauling last week now when you given it and right around shifting rpms it cuts out the check engine and stop engine lights come on and the abs light goes out till everything kicks back in and the abs comes on and the check engine lights go away,
I had a similar thing happen before where it was a broken cable in the battery box and I did have a positive connector one broke ii replaced it and tried to go again today and still cutting out I checked all cables and cleaned them and checked the batteries they were all good at a 11.5 Volts its charging when idling at around 13.5 volts
I don't get it is there something i'm missing it seems to idles fine and rev up sitting there but as soon as you try to make it really work or hit the odd bump it cuts out, I believe it's electrical something I don't really excel in

Power cable to the ECM?
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I kinda wondered but I didn't see anything wrong with it
I also had the truck at my shed kinda parked on a bit of a slope and I was checking things out outside out of the wind and was wiggling things and and went to move it and it died harder than before still ran but struggled to run when I let off the clutch and the lights were on again and finally it came through and I drove it in to the shed -
Yeah... it does seem like an electric issue of some kind. And Because of the check engine light + abs, it seems ECM related. Either low voltage to the ECM maybe from to much resistance-
-a temporary loss of power to the ECM somehow-
-possibly an important cable grounding out somewhere-
-loose battery cables at either the battery or starter
-possibly an internal failure at the ECM.
Reading the code could help. I would first try to check the pin on the ECM plug for voltage during key on. Then try to find the other end of that circuit to test for continuity/ resistanceIH9900 Thanks this. -
Look at the small neg. wire going to the ecm. it you fixed the pos, side then the neg. wire is next to be shutimg truck down, look at batt, wires all the way under truck to starter to batt. for rub spots that will shut off truck like yours is doing?
IH9900 Thanks this. -
worked on it for a few hours the things I've found are
in the neg side the small white wire has a bare spot in the middle from the 2 part connector and where it does in 4 wires but was still covered up in the loom protector and electrical tape
also found one of the main positive cable to the starter from the battery had a small bare spot but it wasn't touching anything and is away from metal unless it bounced when driving
other than that I cleaned up a few connections was gonna spray down the ecm connections but can seem to get them out and don't wanna break them
would them wires I mentioned cause this? -
I had a 9400 with a 60 series and it wouldn't idle back, or back off when i needed to change gears on wet roads. Stayed at 1200 to 1500 rpm. When looking for the problem i found it in a group of wires wrapped in loom.( that split plastic protector). It was located back of engine, think down on left side of engine. Wires were rubbed through the loom and into wires. If you could start engine and wiggle and pull, you may cause it it act up. Just wondering have or did you notice when it acts up, does you volt meter discharge, like with a dead short? Good luck.
it acts upRideandrepair Thanks this. -
Happened to me this past summer in Indy, does ur volts read 0 when ur engine stalls? I ended up replacing the entire ecm and haven't had a problem since, apparently water somehow made it's way inside the ecm
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
FYI 11.5 volts from a battery is considered dead. There should be 12.6 volts from a battery. 12.4 volts is considered 75%.
Working2party Thanks this. -
the alternator gauge just starts to go down and then comes back to 13.5 when engine kicks back I don't think It ever reaches 0 cause the engine is still turning when stalled out for a bit and key is on
never really thought of 11.5 being dead still starts fine and everything works as it should and obviously still taking a charge if the alternator is keeping up at 13.5.
spent the morning cleaning connections and checking for bare spots didn't find anymore just the 2 I mentioned before I cleaned them up and heat shrinked them and taped over them, had it running for abit and was wiggling wires and didn't seem to change anything as well as no sparking anywhere, taking it out for a test drive here pretty quick hopefully everything is good to go
