I’ve been running my I shift with the clutch fan on for a few months during the hot summer months to prevent transmission overheating it works for me. Now that it’s winter I can drive usually with no issues having the fan connected
back to the switch. You have a ribbon or clutch issue? If your truck runs without any issues when cool leaving the fan on will help. Volvo redesigned the coolant feature on the new I shift it’s a heat related problems that have caused many drivers problems.

This doesn't sound like a problem to me..... Might have a clutch overheat abuse code though... Very common in these dumb things.
The stupid iShift will start in 5th great normally if it "thinks" it can... Lightweight sensed like bobtail or very light loads.
Does your suspension pressure readings seen normal lately? Like it's not reading lighter psi than you normally see?
I couldn't stand my clutch taking the abuse from the stupid iShift... It would do it regularly in conditions it shouldn't.
Side note, i think the iShift clutch problems we're more heavily based on software programming rather than hard parts... This is exactly why... It often Starts in gears higher than 1st !!
....So i had Volvo reprogram parameters to force the iShift to start only in 1st in "D" mode .... And up to 3rd in "m" modeLast edited: Dec 30, 2018

Well u could have a clutch problem input shaft
Could be loose, ishift had issues with clutch
Worn out around 400k.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
May be the transmission input shaft speed didn’t slow down enough to engage. Possibility are. Air leak on clutch system. Or part of clutch damper broken spring fall inside of the pressure plate component and block the pressure plate internal travel.

Hi guys
I have similar problem with my 2016 Volvo d13 ishift
It’s at2612d with out +/- buttons
Usually I’m pulling loads from 5000-15000lbs
When I press D button always shift in 1st gear then 3rd,5,7,9,10,11,12 with 5000lbs
When I’m bobtail starting from 5th and continues normal 8,10,11,12
Actually when my red knob is pulled shifting is normal
Truck is in neutral, I’m putting in drive mode shift in 5th and I’m releasing trailer brakes (red knob down) it’s going into 1st
I try this
Truck neutral red knob up
Putting drive mode press little on acceleration pedal then press red knob down
It’s not going into 1st
I’m driving whole day normal pulling forward with 4th or 5th till I shut off my truck
Can you please help me
Thank you -
That's normal standard behavior.
I program my trucks to not allow starting in any gear higher than 1st in D and no higher than 3rd in M.
Factory ishift programming is hard on the clutch life starting in higher gears. -
Sorry for the late reply, I had to change my transmission by volvo. I was lucky enough to have 2 months left on warranty. They said if I didn't have warranty I would be paying $20,000CAD.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
I drove manual transmission I never put in 1st
I drove 5 different Volvo’s always shifts from 4,5 depends on weight
For me that is for heavy loads uphill....
Do you think it’s a programming
It’s confusing for me the red knob when I press why shift downLast edited: Sep 16, 2019

volvo ishift gos in revrse but no drive

If you set the transmission parameters to start no higher than first gear you will have MUCH LONGER clutch life... Same goes for any regular manual transmission vehicle.
