One of the few DT's here is about an 09 with 300,000 miles on it. Driver said nothing about it when he came in Friday. Monday morning he reported a problem. It is running rough and makes a huffing noise at the air filter.
All the fluids are good and it smooths out at about 1300 RPM. First thought was a bad intake valve.
It has more blowby than desired but it is consistent. Exhaust flow at tail pipe is also consistent.
No active codes. Second thought is a worn exhaust cam lobe. Have not had time to get into it yet. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem? All help appreciated.

This is the engine generation that can suffer broken cam follower retainers and the roller turns sideways on the cam and grids itself down until this starts. Pop off the rocker cover and check for any excessive rocker clearance.

    BoxCarKidd and AModelCat Thank this.

Thanks for the information! That is our plan!
Does the head have to come off to repair that problem?

Yes, and if the cam is pooched, the front cover has to come down too. Big job.

    BoxCarKidd Thanks this.
