Yes, if the mileage pay is enough in the first place.

What kind of HazMat? Paint or batteries or something minor I probably wouldn't get too militant about it.

But explosives, gasoline, caustic acids, things like that? Either come up with some bucks or get somebody else. The risk factor is worth additional compensation.

I worked for a company that ran HazMat by the tank train full... A lot!... I dont have my HazMat and wont get it unless there is big $$$ in it for me. I was certified as a HazMat handler... I hate having to suit up in full PPE and full face respirator.

As someone who has pulled bulk hazmat, if a suit is required, there's usually more money involved. Except for Schneider..... They still don't pay squat and I felt bad for the new guys just starting in trucking having to work for so cheap.

Excuse me i thought the title of the thread said company drivers... i didn’t know company drivers had to pay for insurance. Btw, how much does it cost? I didn’t have to pay the motor carriers insurance for them when i was a company driver.

$50 flat for hazmat loads at Prime, whether a shuttle or a 2,000 mile run.

If I drove for a company that didn't pay extra for hazmat, I would speak to them about changing that. If it's inherent in your pay (as in all drivers must have hazmat) or you are paid percentage of the line then that is understandable.

An added benefit to hazmat loads for me is loading and unloading times are rarely more than 30 minutes to an hour, which is nice in the reefer world.

My company pays for all hazmat costs, and pays a penny a mile for every load I pull extra hazmat or not. I’ll take the extra $2k at the end of the year

I started reading this and thought. Who cares?
    We're paid, to truck freight.
IF at the end of the day you don't want to deal with a couple extra steps, then get out of my way I'm going to take that load and make more than you.
The more my wheels are turning the more I'm earning. That's your loss, not mine.

When I was a hazmat company driver for an OTR outfit ,I was locked in at 50cents a mile (all miles). When I was a hazmat company driver for a raw natural gas hauling outfit (Y-grade lpg), they gave us 25% of the load. That was all west TX (my home)
