@DougA I recall hearing him talk about that challenge. He had them mad from the start. They offered a free tune up to all the guys before competing. Yea ok. Most took them up. They pressured him to let the give it a tune up. He explain that it was in tune to his liking, you can look only. And anyone touch it he was "Gonna beat you with your own arms"! They had issues with him from there on out.

 

50 miles to go and walk these off about 2 miles from the house. I'm gonna call this week a success. We didn't break anything or get our ### whooped so it's a win.

Yeah,it was a really crazy time,esp. in the upper Midwest. The big thing was the call for deregulation. A lot of the independents wanted total deregulation of trucking,esp. FASH and the old Overdrive mag (Parkhurst). Regulation was a mess,too,but it was a poison you knew. But you where going into uncharted areas with dereg. I was a teamster O/O,but I was pretty happy with everything,esp. the revenues I was pulling then,and the way things were,figured it would throw trucking into a tailspin,..... took a while,but it finally did.
The strike stuff was horrible,everyone was armed,including me. Then there was a cowardly sniper that killed a innocent Point Transfer steel hauler on the Pa. Tpk. while he was driving down the road with a load of iron,shot through the head,minding his own business. Never solved to this day that I know of. Then all of a sudden it was like WTF guys,were all out here for the same reason. Was a tough,crazy time back then.

 

Allure of the Sea is what we are on..... My sister and brother that are with us are both nurses, they been giving all of us advice lol. I guess it’s a nasty virus for sure.

 

Illness is so easy to spread when you cram a bunch of people on to a ship, then go to exotic locales.

These cruise pics made me think back to my first one.

Ship was a bit different, painted grey. Food and company were both questionable. Accommodations a bit tight....

 

Just got back on the boat....

 

Dad did not want deregulation, for the reasons we see now. So wanted it. I feel it was good and bad for the industry. But FASH was fighting for a different master freight agreement. Due to the fact when teamsters went for negotiate contracts, the steel hauls were sheieted on and left out. That was what started it. They were not representing the Steel Hauler that paid dues and fought for the union.
