So I'm in New Orleans at Check Point Charlie's . The guy next to me overhears me saying I'm a truck driver and he is interested in our fraternity. After like 40 minutes he tells me he has three DUIs. Wow. The most recent was 13 years ago, very NOLA that number. The other two are over 25 years ago, he's 50. Can he get a CDL? Would they even show up?
Another DUI question, DUI before cdl

Yes, he can get a cdl and yes, they'll probably show up during a background check.
Tell him to find a cheap 160 hr. cdl school.
Tell him to Google : WIOA Program Louisiana and maybe the state will pay for the school.Rideandrepair, tscottme and austinmike Thank this. -
Rideandrepair Thanks this.

He can try Schneider, but I don't know their policy on DUI's.
Many companies won't hire even though they're old DUI's.
He'll still find a job though.
He can try www.kllmdrivingacademy.com
He doesn't have to mention the DUI's unless the question is "Have you EVER had a DUI?"
Usually companies just want to know if a person's had a DUI within the last "xyz" years.
Doubt a tanker company will hire him right now.
TransAm has "no DUI with past 24 months.
Most companies are 5 yrs. or 10 yrs. or whatever they want.
There's a few that have "no DUI's in a lifetime."Last edited: Jan 13, 2019

justcarhaulin, HopeOverMope, 77fib77 and 6 others Thank this. -
Might do some checking first. I don't think any of us know about dui's prior to getting a cdl.
We can tell you about the penalties now with a cdl. 2 means cdl revocation. The penalties are different between regular and commercial licenses.
1 older then 10 years wouldn't be a problem. But 3 might be.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Rideandrepair, exhausted379 and Cam Roberts Thank this.

All DUIs before those tables in 383.51 were made part of 49 CFR and anything before being issued a CDL is not disqualifying. Once you do get issued a CDL those tables become something all CDL holders should be aware of. This is about the CDL ONLY! Nothing about this means a carrier must accept you as a risk. So if you currently have a drivers license generally you should be able to get a CDL unless of course, you lost the CDL before.
Rideandrepair, Bean Jr. and x1Heavy Thank this. -
The key is having a basic car license as outlined by Moose. You can have a thousand DUI's
It's when you stuff that CDL A into your wallet for the first time still warm from the photo equiptment is when you have to put away the DUI's and start growing up to be a adult professional.Rideandrepair, bzinger, Bean Jr. and 1 other person Thank this.
