The whole "plastic truck mafia" thing may also just be a generational thing. Lots of people who are driving now grew up in the era of aero trucks being the dominant thing on the highway. I was born in 1986 and grew up seeing long hood Pete's and KW's on the road, and associated those with "trucking".
Someone born in 1998 (turning 21 this year btw) grew up seeing Freightliner Columbia's and Century's all over the road and came to associate those with "trucking".
I'm not opposed to plastic trucks on the road, they serve a particular part of the industry, but no one should ever tell me that there is "no place" for a "hood" on the road. Those Mammoet guys moving that 2,000,000lb load the other day have no reason to spec out an International LT with an A26 with 2.64 rears. "Fuel economy" doesn't even begin to be a factor for them. They need torque, massive cooling and reliability to pull/push for the entire time it's moving.
But hey, I'm a bit of a generational gap "spanner" and can appreciate a good looking hood as much as a good looking plastic truck.
I wouldn't have any problem if given this to drive on a daily basis:

The rides I’ll be in soon aren’t the shiniest but they are very clean and very well maintained. Little much going on with the trucks but they look good in person.

This is a situation were you track your fuel milage strickly for information only. Monitor it performance. But not for my bottom line. Fill it up and go again. When my milage is down, either something is wrong with truck or wagon is full. If wagon is full I chuckle a bit knowing I'm making money!1951 ford, ShooterK2, Shock Therapy and 18 others Thank this. -

-18 at the house this morning. Fueled the pickup at a Chevron station that is owned by a friend of the family. I learned this morning that he has someone new ordering fuel and they didn't bother to order blended diesel.
It was a nice brisk walk to the shop this morning.
