I recently got an interview with ABF. Been looking into this company for a while now. Everything seems to be fine for that one. However, I was told I'd make around 60K my first few years(which is fine by me. I'll take a small paycut)...but am hearing/reading more and more guys are saying I'll be making close to 40K a year. At the same time, everybody is saying ABF is an awesome company so if offered take it. I have a wife and 2 little ones to take care of. I currently make around 65K a year and live fine off of that. 40K won't cut it(this is the NC term). I did do a brief 'stint' at Estes, had personal issues and had to move on...but made around 25K in the 4 months I was there(and LOVED pulling doubles). So, I found out fedex freight is looking for road drivers as well, so applied with them. I'm sure I won't hear from them for about a month or so(applied last night). But, I would probably make more at fedex extraboard as opposed to abf, right? All insight is greatly appreciated! As far as ODFL goes, they are not hiring and know some guys there. Not too big on all of their rules. Sure they pay the most, but they sound like they are becoming SAIA(no smoking/vape), cameras on you(although not as STRICT as SAIA). I don't mind cameras on me, just don't want to be bothered if I drink water, change radio station while driving.
ABF or FedEx Freight

There are no driver facing cameras at od and my terminal is the most laid back job I’ve ever had in trucking but yes corporate has a lot of rules mostly don’t tear stuff up lol
Texas_hwy_287, Metallica88 and Coover Thank this. -
huh? There are driver facing cameras at OD, they are on your peoplenet device. However, they say they don't use them. I've heard from about 2 people I know, personally, that work there. Even sent me text pics of guys putting a sticker to cover the camera up on the peoplenet device.

FedEx Freight road drivers do more dock work then driving when your the low man on the totem pole. Abf is zero dock work as a linehaul driver I think.

My bid is about 4.1 hours of driving round trip with about 4 hours of dock work (I usually end up in the hostler though). Usually rounds out to be a 10 hour day. $75k/yr bid right off the bat not counting for any vias or double turns.Mooseontheloose, yankatank and Radman Thank this. -
