Folks, this happened in my home state of South Carolina! I found out about it earlier this week when my wife told me about this unfortunate circumstance. Fortunately, they caught the dirty, good for nothing scumbags who did this. If I were fortunate enough to be selected to serve on the jury that tried them, I'd have no problems whatsoever giving them a death sentence.

What did this guy do wrong? He stopped to get some sleep and was awakened by criminals who managed to get $7.00; that's right: $7.00.

Is life so cheap these days that criminals will steal for even less than that?

A word to the wise is sufficient. I have items in my truck that I can use if one of those dirtbags comes after me. Unfortunately, we're not allowed to conceal carry with my company or by other states. And I travel OFTEN to places/customers that don't allow concealed weapons. But that doesn't mean that this fat guy can't have some form of protection.

If the day comes that I'll have to protect myself, and I sure hope it doesn't any time soon, they'll regret the day they saw me coming!

no guarantee's in life, but had he been parked in a well lite truck stop with 100 fellow driver/witnesses... chances are he would still be here.

sorry for his families loss...

but statistically this is the anomally assuming nothing else was afoot.

 

Fellow leased to the same company as my BIL was robbed in our home state (LA) at one of the truckstops in Hammond, LA. I think it was the Petro, but not sure. The other two he was running with found parking spots near the front line, being the last truck, he had to park in the rear of the well lit, and patrolled lot. After exiting his truck, he crossed the travel lane, noticing that a car was approaching rather quickly, but not fast enough to catch him before he walked between the next row of parked trucks. The three blacks in the car finally caught up to him in the travel lane between the front row of parked trucks, and the fuel islands. The front passenger pulled his pistol, and demanded the wallet, the truck driver threw the wallet down, and ran into the truck stop after hearing the driver tell the gun holder to "cap his ###". Cops said he was very lucky.
I will not layover anywhere in LA east of Baton Rouge, for this reason. There aren't enough lights in the state to make that area safe. If I do not feel I can make it west of the Basin, I'll layover in MS.

You are right about no guarantees in life, but there are a few things a person can do to help his chances. Though it may be illegal, I feel carrying a firearm IS one way to help. I'm sure you feel different, preferring to try to talk your way out of a situation......

I think your driver partner had a pretty good outcome. he wasn't dead whereas he may have been if he tried to draw, jack one in the chamber, aim , and then fire at his target.

he might have hit the guy, had he been packing, or he might have missed and hit somebody else...

he might be full of crap and have told you a whopper and nothing ever happened... or maybe he lost his wallet and wanted to embellish stupidity with triumph of survival?

packing can help?

packing can only help if you have already failed at everything previously. for it to actually help you have to pull a gun faster than a guy can squeeze, who already has the drop on you. not likely.

I see packing as a personal comfort. 99% psychological.

for guns to be a true deterant everybody has to have one so that perpetrators are less likely to commit a crime.

I don't trust most to carry a gun and act rationally.

then there is the whole other side of the coin... assuming truckers got guns... so instead of being told to cough up your wallet, you are ambushed and shot dead, then the perp digs your wallet out of your bloody pants.

safety, to me, comes from numbers of people willing to follow the rule of law and me acting as rationally as possible.

btw I'm not anti-gun. I have a nice rifle, shotgun, and hand gun collection.

I believe whole heartedly in using them for hunting and home protection.

I don't even have a problem with guys packing that have concealed carry permits and some real training.

but if you want one because you'll feel safer... I think you are tiche bit paranoid.

you can however get some training, get a permit, and pack away.

you might have to also quite your job and start your own company and only drive in those states that will allow you to pack a gun.

or maybe work as a security guard for 9 bucks and hour.

me and my metal thermos are just fine in our sleeper... no permit needed.

 

As I usually take Argosz with me everywhere he would have been at my side, he would have went for the thugs in the car either by instinct (he is a very quick judge of a situation), or by command, which takes half a second to say. Granted, if the story was true, he had a high likely hood of getting shot, but HE would be the one taking the bullet, which is his job and he takes it serious. Cause it the ######### shot at me, they better be quick at getting a shot off, rolling up the window, and getting out of there before he went through the window or getting two shots off. He's trained to go for the gun arm, so if he did get him, the likely hood is he would not be shoting again. We've got serious trainer whom does scenerios for the dogs every year at random times to keep them on their toes, stage fake robberies and kidnappings and so on. This exact scenerio, two people in a car with a gun was played out for my dog I have it on video somewhere. According to the guy (retired cop) most thugs will not bother to shoot in that situation the psychological fear of a snarling charging dog makes most flee. However, if they don't they will usually shoot at the dog first. Look at K9 cops history and you will see that in almost every case where a K9 officer has been shot, the dog had been shot first. Course the cops in those situations have to stick around, not flee like a little girl screaming her fool head off like I would be after sending the dog.

Of course the same guy says that if the dog's presence alone does not stop a thug from wanting to make you a victim the likely hood of possible violence in the encounter is much higher.

But most likely he just lost his wallet and made it up. No offense, but truck drivers seem to love making wild stories

Also... I wanted to be a K9 cop handler, I still do, but alas, I have no want to work 5 years before getting the chance as a normal cop. I like to do what I like to do eh?
