This is so not an industry one can simply do side jobs for another carrier.

Do you have the correct insurance? The correct drug consortium signup? A driver qualification file for you?

Unless you are setup as an employee of the company, or as a carrier this little side job could land you in jail.

How would that work? It's a Ryder truck. How would I transfer or show the hours I've worked that week? I'm not on paper.

If I finished by 1600 on Saturday I'd have a 34 before I had to start back up Monday

Why can't he drive it himself?
Or hire a company with all the necessary authority and insurance and all that? Power only could work.

If something happens or if you're stopped for inspection both you and his insurance are going to have some answering to do. If you don't give a hoot about any of that then just tell him you'll do it for an hourly rate. Could be a cash deal as well.

Then you can't do it legally.

Any hours you do for compensation of any work count against your hos on a truck.

And you don't account for them on a log sheet but keep track of them just in case you get into an accident, because that ambulance chasing pos lawyer will dig deep to find a reason you are at fault for his client.

Yeah, I was looking to do it the legal way. I have a record before I started driving and am not looking for any legal recourse.

How would it not be able to be done? If I have time on my clock left over from my work week and use it Saturday with time to spare Saturday-Monday for a 34 to restart my clock, shouldn't the log aspect of it be legal?

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Sorry his the enter button too soon.

OK if you are doing this outside the 34, and you have hours to spare - say 15, you have to still pick up the load, and drop it off plus secure the load, each end will be 30 minutes to 45 minutes so at four trips that is for load/unload and securement so 4 to 5 hours minimal. then your drive time is set at 48 mph (this is how you figure out how much to charge), so 360 miles total will 7.5 hours, this doesn't count for any delays like with weather. So you have already 12.5 hours into it. BUT then if you are delayed and you have other issues with your regular job, you will run right into the hos wall where you have to take your 34.

Now I am changing my point, I am not saying it can't be done if you have time, but i am saying for the most part when you run this tight, you are the one who ends up getting screwed in the end if there are problems so I could consider this to be an $800 day easily.
