Prime: Orientation and Training?

Forgot one: if I have a prescription for a medication are they going to ask who my Doctor is, for all my medical records from him?

 

And how long after the application does the Twic card come through?

 

I am not aware of any area that has hiring restirictions for Prime. I was originally hired out of Virginia. If there are area restrictions its because its hard to get people home in places of low freight. Florida is a place that comes to mind... lots of freight going in, practically nothing coming out.

APU is Aux Power Unit. It powers electrical/AC/Heating on the truck...a small diesel generator that saves more fuel than idleing the truck.

Prescriptions that make you groggy or impare driving are disqualifiers.. othe than that I dont know details and which ones etc...

TWIC is something you have to do on your own... Prime actually had the TSA come in and set up shop at the terminal for a few months to help out the employees.... but Im pretty sure thats over with and you will now have to go to a TWIC center to get one. The rumor is the process is alot quicker now.... instead of 4-6 weeks between the application visit and the pick upof the card, I have heard a week or two.

I have a notebook with a Verizon air card.

 

So what is the fingerprinting? I thought that was for your twic card?

 

Prime fingerprints you... thats for security purposes. It has nothing to do with TWIC.

TWIC is a government issued ID that allows you to enter ports. In the future some companies have indicated that they may require the TWIC card for entrance to their plants.

Now if you go to your state and apply for Hazmat endorsement, they will fingerprint you and do a background check... then if you go to apply for TWIC they will give you a discount because you have been fingerprinted for Hazmat.

If you do TWIC first, where they fingerprint you, for sure, my state offers no discount or streamline process for Hazmat endorsement.

 

What does Prime do with my fingerprints?

 

Im pretty sure all motor carriers have to have driver fingerprints on file... if not then its a security thing.
