There are good and bad trucking companies just like there are good and bad tech companies. I would guess the odds are there are more bad trucking companies than tech companies. This industry is full of companies that over promise and under deliver and generally treat their people like crap.

There are a lot of people that get into trucking because they are desperate and don’t know what else to do and these vulture companies prey on them. Don’t believe everything you are told and be cautious. Many companies treat their people like crap.

If you want to be a trucker because you want to be a trucker then go for it but if you are just looking for a better job I suggest you put your degree to work at another tech company.

I would also suggest putting your degree to work somewhere else. Trucking sucks and a lot of us(non internet rambo types) can at least agree on that. It's lonely, long hours, the public give zero craps about our safety or their own for that matter. The government has a hard on for us, so it's constant changes and reforms to limit what we can and cannot do. Unless you get the right company, your not going to make 75k unless you own the truck or live in it year around. Some companies will treat you right and allow you to make what you need.... Most will not.
I would kill to have your degree and know how.. I would give anything to get out of trucking. So once more, unless your sole ambition is to tour the country while being paid, then maybe try to source another company out that will leave you alone a little more.

I enjoy being left to myself at work. I go to work, load my trailers and go home. I typically don't screw anything up so there is no reason to bother me. The guys that get bothered are those in the company that constantly screw up. I made 60 grand last year being home every night. I'm a milk hauler and load 5 farms per day on two trailers. Typically done in 8 hours sometimes less sometimes more. I spent 6 years working in milk plants prior and got tired of corperate nonsense. Bosses managers stupid company rules. I'm done with it. I have no ELD and generally don't have to deal with the dot. This job works great for me and my family.

Chinatown needs some kind of bat symbol or something.

When a poster is in need...just let it shine.

My advice...listen to the folks above. Search the forum. Lots good advice out there.

Sirscrapntruckalot - I'm out of puns. I used them in a otter thread.

Someone has has to really like driving to drive a truck. TAKE Millis for example. My understanding is they run a lot of the Notheast. That can burn a new guy out because the notheNot suck for driving and even bigger today maybe parking. I stopped at TA truck stop and all the free parking was full by 3pm so had to get paid parking. By 5pm all the paid parking was sold out. So no place to park for anyone else. People don't talk about that. Millis pay good and has good reputation but running notheast not fun.

I liked driving cross country open roads no traffic and you just drive. Then that was pull refer and you have to deal with long loading and unloading times. You don't get paid to sit unless you get Detention Pay.

Not only that but someone has to like hauling heavy all the time... that is so depressing knowing that every load is gonna max out and be miserable...

15 years I chased the dream of a good IT job. It was like jumping from one sinking ship to another. Foreign competition and cost cutting is a given. Yes 1% raises and no bonuses are BAU these days in general. Better lonely than burnt out and suicidal.
