Neither, there is no perfect company out there but the best companies from my research are CFI, Rhoel, Crete, and (supposedly) Schnieder. I have had friends that have made the mistake of working for Swift and Covenant and they don't have much good to say about them. I just spoke with a CFI driver the other day who loves it at CFI and he had started out with Covenant, which, he stated "was the biggest mistake he ever made".

Gents, take a look at the age of the poster and realize that he has some limits on where he can go. If he were a bit older, he could apply to some of the companies you mention, but he is aware of his situation. Just wish him well.

I think you will find that just about all companies run a lot of east coast freight.I dont mind it once in a while, but I dont want a steady diet of New England,NY,NJ CN,MD,etc.

Howdy all ... I went to a Stevens recruitment thing tonight, and in doing my homework, I find many nightmares and a few satisfied drivers.

I'm inexperienced, broke, and just looking for a fresh start after a medical bankruptcy last year. I sure can't afford to be taken to the cleaners.

    All insight and advice appreciated!

I chose Schneider because of what I read here on this forum. I also didn't choose Stevens because of what I read here also.

Schneider was actually my 3rd choice. The other two companies were full and not taking new drivers at the moment. They're both very good companies so it didn't surprise me.

Schneider has a training location in Dallas. Same as Stevens. I would look into Schneider first. Heck, I would go to almost anyone over Stevens. According to people here, Schneider has a good training program. You'll need to sign an 18 month contract with them if you want to go to their school.

I just finished up my first month OTR with SNI, they did right by me.

The training was excellent, and as long as you stick out the contract it's paid for... No payroll deduct, or snazzy fine print crap like that. You do your time, you owe nothing, you pay nothing. If you just want to train with them and go to another company they do have a finance option I believe.

    Give a recruiter a call...

You know, I should give out my driver number, I could make a lot of money off this site acting as a recruiter lol.

Stevens may seem honest on the website, but ask most drivers and it's not so great.

Check Schneider out, you'll do good there. It's not fancy, but it's a good job, with a reliable company.

    Thanks, both.

The thing (I think) I like about Stevens is the irregular route. I think I'd enjoy that more than doing, say, Denver to Amarillo (blech!) over and over and over and over ...

That, and the "our average truck is 16 months old" thing.

Of course, neither is beneficial if Stevens finds a reason to terminate me in a month, leaves me sitting in the desert beside the road, drains my bank account, and then charges me 5k for "tuition."

Think I'll go with Schneider ...

As long as you're honest on the app (not saying you are not or won't be) you'll be ok. They have a lot of paperwork for you to fill out. heh.

When you go to training, you'll have to shack up with another student in the hotel room. They hotel has a free continental breakfast and they are supposed to give you a coupon for lunch. Dunno about that, OTR_Gamer can fill you in on that. I don't think they pay you while you are in the classroom but once you are out on the road you get $350 a week. 1 to 3 weeks later you go Solo and earn mile pay (usually) if I read it right.

Has anyone ever worked for any of these companies? I am considering going back on the road. Would appreciate any feedback anyone may have.
