... last feb , went upto fredonia during a snowstorm and believe me , chaining helped. No sign to do it, and no notices, but common sense is a good rule of thumb. ( snowed from the foothills , over the top of thepass and back down )stopped about 7 miles out, tookoff chains and thats about it.

Precisely. I mean, it's easy to say "just sit it out" if you're not running a wrecker responding to a call to get the highway clear again or delivering mag chloride or solar salt to a municipal/county/state salt barn so that they can clear their roads. Sitting it out isn't an option for everyone.

Just sitting it out could also end up being days. INstead of hours.

Out west at big hills they have chain laws. When they put up the chain law. Everyone stops a put their chain on. Out west they don't use salt. Just a plow nd some dirt and gravel. When they get 18+ inches of snow they don't close the road. They put up the chain laws and you keep trucking. It sucks putting them on and you can only go about 30mph

1st time I broke traction, I'd be looking for a place to hang iron. Here in Colorado, chain laws and passenger vehicle traction laws ( must have 4 wheel drive, or snow tires) are strictly enforced with over head info signs and cruisers. Fines are stiff without chains, $600 dollars for CMV's and $1,600 DOLLARS if you block the road without chains. Trucking in the midwest, I never put chains on a truck. Here in Colorado, I have them in my pickup, but for emergency only.

    Fredonia___?? KY,WI, NY,PA. ??

posters always assume his area is the one everybody knows.

they'l say "cabbage" or Eagle mtn, or some other well know, to them, mtn. while others have no idea what their talking about.

East coast drivers hardly ever "throw iron".

west coast it can be 3 times a day or more.

You guys are throwing a lot of chains for just a little snow.

Chain the driver side rear axle, passenger side first axle, and don't go over 25-30. Things get iffy. Also, make sure you get them tight and keep a window cracked. Listen on the drivers side, close it then listen on the passenger side. You don't want to throw a chain because it might damage equipment and then some guy like me has just gotten a free chain on the highway

My truck is 2wd only..stupidest thing. Only the right spins.

The right rear is also the drive.

Salt is used in 2 western states. At least.

No power divider? That's odd. I always thought why do most trucks have twin screw, when 90% of the time, only one wheel is doing the work. A lot of hardware spinning for no reason. So you have one drive axle, and a tag axle on the truck?
