I have an opportunity to buy subject tractor for 15K. Thats what hes asking anyway. I am skeptical however. I went and looked at it today and it looks like a homeless giy was living in it. I can clean that up no problem. It has been in a collision and needs a hood, radiator and bumper. It has the paccar engine. He also lost the key. My gut is telling me to run but it could also be a good truck when i get done with it. I can do all tje work myself. Thoughts?

Depends on how big of a project you want to take on. The upside I see is in some states if the truck has a reconstructed title it would allow you to legally swap out the emmisions motor for the motor of your choice but you would want to check first.

If it is a truck that is just turning 5 years old that is completely beat up and hit and not taken care of, how well do you think the truck was serviced? They may have changed the oil at 75000 miles or something crazy like that. You can't start it so who knows, the engine might even be blown up..

Unless you think that you can get 15000 back out of it in parts, I would run away from that truck. For what it would cost to have another engine for that truck, and on top of that but it would cost if you had emission related problems, not to mention transmission rears or anything else, you could probably just buy something else in good shape that you could get in and use.

That's the way I would look at it anyway.

I'm leery of trucks with a bad history, or just about anything else, come to think of it.

Do you feel lucky? It's a gamble, that's the only sure thing.

The cheapest things cost the most. Remember the car you bought for a couple hundred as your first car and it cost thousands to keep on the road?
