I pass it going east. East aint been open for years, no building even left. I have seen 10 plus Dot/Puco cars lined up just waiting. @johndeere4020 more than likely will agree.

Oklahoma and New Mexico left me alone on this trip... hopefully Ohio will as well. I’d pass a level one but that small air leak under the hood would grab ODOT attention for some extra spankings...

Always heard Ohio/Indiana DOT are some of the worst in the country. My trainer at Melton had a list of rules... one of them was about Ohio...

“Stwik. We never. Never. Take a 10 or a 30 break in a Ohio rest area, you understand?”

I know many states have a history of doing inspections in rest areas... my trainer got into it with a lanky ODOT officer a few years prior and will barely even stop the truck in the whole state...

Talking about morning coffee with the OG. I began going to morning coffee with my father when I was about 6 or 7. Started off in a little downtown restaurant then after a few years the owner retired and sold the restaurant so they moved to a restaurant at a motel. Motel built a new restaurant across the street so it naturally moved over there then the owner raised the price of coffee so it moved to McDonald's.

I watched and learned through 2 generations of Western Kansas OG's, everyone from farm hands that barely spoke english all the way to a couple doctors, mayor, senator etc. They gathered on a level playing field, told each other lies and shared a depth of knowledge that could never be written in books or taught in a classroom.

I watched one morning as a guy named Buddy Ski, who appeared to not have two nickels to rub together, pull out his checkbook and write out a 6 figure check and hand it to the pastor on the other side of the table so the pastors church could go ahead with thier expansion. I later learned this guy owes a crane company and is worth a few million. Every single man and woman in that coffee clutch was on a level playing field.

Sadly, my father, who turns 92 this year is the only one of that group still living. Looking back, I realize how much I actually learned from these people and also kick myself in my ### for not paying more attention.

    Speaking of old guys...

Back in the day, you as a driver had to abide by a code of conduct. If any guy used curse words around a woman, any woman, those old guys would slap him in his teeth. And those guys were rugged, strong and had hands like mechanics.

You'd also find yourself picking you ### up off the floor if you went through a door ahead of ANY lady or stood there and watched her open the door for herself.

My father HATED Senator Nancy Kassebaum with a dire passion and would sit and argue politics with her for hours but he'd open the door and hold it for her coming and going. I finally asked one day, "dad, you call her a ####### stupid #### all the time then get up and open the door for her, why?". Dad said, "well son, she is a ####### stupid #### but she's still a lady". Nuff said, I open the door.
