pre 2003 c15/3406e is the same thing basicly, just a few small improvements

they will get alot better mileage than a post 2003 egr motor

HHHHHMMMMMM, according to the charts it takes a certain ammount of fuel to produce 1 BHP so, it depends on the fear ratio and the driver and the wind and if you are like me, everything is uphill and upwind and I still get 6 MPG average a year.

CAT has no post 2003 egr motor. The post 2003 motors are ACERT, which mean that they have adjusted the ecm and other components to acheive the proper emissions. Basically CAT has messed with the injection timing, velve timing and have added a lot of boost to get the proper air flow through the motor to lower emissions. With all this said the ACERTS are very bad on fuel, especially in the cold weather, compared to the single turbo C-15 or 3406E. Many people think that the C-15 is a egr motor because of the amount of hardware hanging on the motor, but it is decieving.

I would stick with the 3406E motor since it has been on the road a long time with decent results. Alos the aftermarket has many parts out there for a basic rebuild or high performance.

The C-15, not to be confused with the C15, without the hyphen, the former has the same displacement as the 3406 wheras the later has the 15.8 liter crank yeilding a 15.2 liter engine, the C15 ASCERT. Otherwise the C-15 is a sculptured block casting of the 3406, about 250 lbs, lighter & a smidge stronger in the Web area.

ACERT is just a different name for EGR. Acert circulates exhaust after turbo and dpf, egr before turbo.

No,the Acerts before DPF models don't recirculate exhaust AT ALL.They use Miller Cycle. The intake valve is held open on compression stroke, and the heated, compressed air is fed back into the intake to slow the burn in the next cylinder in the firing order.

    pullingtrucker Thanks this.

Like I said many think that the ACERTS use egr, but they don't. Many of my freinds thought so the first time they seen the motor just because of all the piping and the large cooler on the passenger side of the motor.
