I'm on the backside of my driving career and will be out of trucking in about 2-4 years. I've been driving local, pulling end dumps with coal and flyash. I'm tired of the ash and frankly, the truck is beating me to death and the ash makes me feel like I'm never clean. Called Schneider and they said my miles would be about 1700 to 2000 a week, home on weekends. The sign on bonus would be a big help, but the money would be about the same otherwise. It's nice to be home every day and real weekends, but I'm just feeling worn out and I have a 45 minute commute each way every day.

I would love to hear the pros and cons from other Schneider drivers. I really want to know what recruiters won't tell me. I've been driving for about 15 years now, but turning 60 has made me reevaluate what I'm doing. In 2 years my house is paid off, I can draw Soc. Sec. if I want to take the monthly hit and my daughter will be in her junior year of college. If I make a change, it will be my last.

Well, it'll probably be pretty easy on you. There's not much to it but drive, sit on a dock, drive again. The pay they advertise includes bonuses at top level cpm which you should qualify for. I wouldn't ever expect to get what they advertise but it can be done. I've done it but only for one year and it took a toll on my health. They stick to HOS rules pretty hardcore and there's no wiggle room so I think that'll play into not making as much as you used to. You have to run out your clock everyday to make that kind of money. But you can just run 8-10 hours and it's laid back. They don't push you to run your ### off. To make those bonuses you'll have to limit your idling but sometimes comfort comes first.

Personally, I wouldn't drive 45mins extra twice a day. I've also done that and lasted about a month before I was stopping to sleep on a load. I stick to accounts that are out at least a week with at least two full days off for home time. Schneider doesn't always get you home at the specific time you're supposed to be home but they try and they'll still give you your full days off. They also forget you exist sometimes but that's a good thing to me. If no ones talking to you it means you're doing the right thing. I don't want to talk to anyone anyway.

It won't be a bad gig for you if you have your budget and health right. The job will be a vacation compared to what you're used to. You'll get a softer truck than you're used to I think. The 2018s and older ride ok but the 2019s are every bit as comfortable as a newer KW or Volvo. The 2018s and some 2017s have inverters so that helps. The 2016s and older are sparse and shaky but you're not likely to get anything older than 2015. Hope you like automatics, though.

I mean, if there's anything more specific you want to know a lot of us on here have been all over Schneider.

I can’t say anything about schneider, but you are right in the prime operating area for Cox Transfer. They are a great company and would be a fine place to finish your career.
