2013 Peterbilt 388 showing two codes on dash EGR Valve leaking and Degated engine. Took it to a tA to have codes read and computer won’t allow them in. Suggested data link may be bad or loose wire. Any one had similar issue?

Is all your gauges working? Speedometer rpm and oil pressure temp gauge All will be not functioning if the datalink is down

    JNelson1214 Thanks this.

Yeah everything is running fine. Even for what the codes are showing I have no symptoms. What else can cause the computer not to be able to read the codes?

It is possible that there is something wrong with the truck, however................ more likely the operator of the diagnostic tool or the something wrong with the tool itself.

Take the unit to a qualified repair facility.

I had the TA attempt to read it and a mechanic. Taking it to the Peterbilt dealer in the AM to see if they can see what the issue is. Just figured I ask to see if anyone has had a similar issue. And yes the ELd is hooked in and working.

Check the Diag fuse is on or close to the bottom row of the fuse box by your left foot. If not blown, pull it and replace it with a new one. Water from windshield leaks or even from your feet can grow corrosion on the bottom two rows of fuses. This fuse supplies power to the diagnostic connector and is the most common issue.

If the eld is working the data link is working

All the fuses were checked and all good. That’s why second mechanic thought maybe data link was bad or maybe a loose wire. But he told me to try Peterbilt bc he wasn’t comfortable with the wiring diagram on petes

Alot of unpluging the ELD will spread out the ports inside plug under dash, they have a tool that replaces the ports but look for a shop that has a reader that can get a code without any more $ being shelled out?
