1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

This is the softest Economy in Post War times. Is going to get worse. Trucking has lost 88,000 jobs last 3 months and stands to lose more in the coming months. Read article via link. Don't forget more than 2,500 companies have shut thier doors since this began and many of those mom and pops that would take a chance on you are gone for now. My MVR is much better than yours and I been driving for years. Right now I am part time driver full time farmer because there is just not enough freight out there. You may try Gainey/ Super Service but be careful with those guys because Gainey is in Chapter 11 and could fall anytime unless it finds a way to workout issues with Wachovia Bank.

I read that report the way I interpreted it those were jobs lost due to fleet downsizing and companies going out of business , less jobs on the market . I bet students that graduate and never get hired are counted in trucking industry unemployment stats because they were never employed . Unemployment figures only show the number collecting unemployment . If they are terminated for certain reasons they can't collect and aren't included as unemployed . People who have exhausted their benefits and can no longer collect aren't counted either .

well my point was that 1000's of people are going into trucking each month even though 1000's are coming out.

And the majority of those thousands won't last six months and will temporarily be replaced by new thousands that won't last any longer .

Independents and small fleets have customers that give quality service priority over a cheap rate . There will always be work for them .

Thanks for the folks who tried to help. My 2 violations were back when I didn't know what driving a truck was, I didn't even had the notion of how bad would it be for having a bad record. I was 21, paying for my mistakes now. The accident its just under the DAC, prime put on to screw me over, it was a eventuality, I didn't hit anything nor anything hit me. Now I'm working, happy I'm out of the big hassle league. Its a local company where my job is appreciated, and you know what? I'm making more money and going home more often than with Prime.

That article did say that 88,000 jobs lost in 2009 so far is due to fleet downsizing but it also said several companies are in the midst of hiring freeze in all positions. It also doesn't take into account all those companies that went out of biz in 2008 due to fuel hikes, dispatchers, and other office personnel that lost employment. I don't know what the total numbers are but if it was 200,000 less jobs in the industry I wouldn't be surprised. On the plus side if the economy turns it around fast there are no were near the amount of quailfied drivers or trucks to handle 2007 freight levals which will translate into huge rate increases and higher wages, I hope.
