My 1st question would be why have a built in stud..If it cab be made to be able to use replaceable studs of different sizes would be so much better...The new mount might have a horrible stud..
I played around one day with a few different studs and got different results so it does make a diff..
Peterbilt 579 antennas.

Still in development.
-
I’ll get you a pic of mine tomorrow to illustrate. -
(Post 23 shows my back of sleeper factory mount. Otherwise a standard 579 EPIQ. )
I finally ran RG8X thru the cab and under the bunk exiting thru an existing inverter-lead hole in the side-box floor.
Have run some fused 6-ga stranded to jump points as temporary.
Both the coaxial cable & power leads are encased in split loom. And both are treated AT EACH END with a choke or filter:
1). Big DC toroid ferrite at entrance to cab, and Palomar 12VDC filter ahead of Rig Runner distribution panel.
Palomar Coax Filter at Radio and their FC-8-15 Choker at antenna feed-point.
NOW that 5’ Skipshooter can perform.
Have been running the Galaxy 99v2 wide open on Gain & Squelch except when thru big metro areas. “Known” base station signals at 25-30/miles on IH40. (Adjustments to DSP Speaker filtration level minimal thru day).
More bonding needed (90w Forward & 1.0 Reflected using MFJ tuner with minimal inductance).
So it’s great to maximize reception (per se) given the wait for SS mirror mounts.
And there wasn’t a single minute of a 500+ mile drive yesterday without radio chatter.
Granted, IH40 Little Rock to IH24 Chattanooga has heavy truck traffic. Plenty of locals and short regional. But the quality of the rig & install DOES have something to do with, “there’s no one out there”.
Just need to seal up the connectors with Coax Seal, Super 88 and some self-fusing UV resistant tape.

Highwayman1224 Thanks this. -
Yeah it definitely looks like your cab is taller.
Slowmover1 Thanks this. -
Thanks.
That looks like the red 579 stock photo (not mine) I linked very early in thread.
The only configurations I’ve seen have been that type either dual or single (on gliders), or, the sleeper-back as in our fleet.
Buy/build some caps to plug those with those antennas stowed.
Robert said it’ll be a bit, but the mirror-mount bracket SS antenna mounts are coming (CLAYS RADIO SHOP).
