Good luck, you'll get it,everybody does, after doing it a couple thousand times it will be second nature.Just think when you're on your own you'll be able to practice all you want. Here's a tip for when you're in traffic, leave a lot of stopping distance in front of you, that way you don't have to keep shifting.Just stay in 1 gear and creep along, just watch out for 4 wheelers, they see a hole and right away they have to jump in it.Silly drivers.

You can downshift faster by skipping gears.....after you get into 8th gear, hit the brakes until you slow down to 15 mph and then grab 6th gear. Hit the brakes hard, so your instructor has his seat belt lock up.....then he will have something to yell at you about!! Just kidding, use moderate brake pressure.

Ask your instructor if he wants you to skip gears when downshifting....it would be good practice. In the real world there will be times you have to skip some gears. If a car pulls out in front of you, you may need to brake hard, and skip several gears.

By the way, when you do the cdl driving test, the examiner will likely ask you to only downshift a few gears. The examiner will not ask you to do what your instructor is telling you to do.

Thanks guys. Its going better thus far today. Shifting the same for 9th and 8th, but 7th and 6th I’m shifting at a higher speed. Realized I wasn’t kicking the rpms up high enough before so all the advice has helped! He’s still finding things to get on me ab but nothing like before. Yeah, he would not take kindly to me slamming the brakes haha!

    Trucks are definitely like women.

Most of them are dirty, old and overweight.

After you get away from your instructor, find a company that runs 13 or 18 speeds. Much nicer to be able to split gears and shift with your thumb

Pumpkin Oval Head and Cam Roberts Thank this.
