Between that, and all the undesirable characters that infest this industry, there is still a very big labor pool for the more corrupt companies, so as of yet they have no reason at all to anything different.

I'm shocked, amazed and astounded at what is out here driving trucks. 300-500 pound lard ashes that cant even make it to the building without gasping for breath. 8 years ago I weighed about 250 and had a 17.5" neck. They wanted me to take a sleep apnea test (which EVERYONE seems to fail) because of BMI. Granted, I could have (and did, over time), lost some weight, but some of these people with the purple calves and sounding like pugs probably shouldn't be given control of an 80,000# vehicle.
Let's not even get started on the sandals with socks, track pants wearing crowd. Or the ones who look as though they've pulled their wardrobe out of a dumpster....

Yep, bigger...and dumber, and cheaper too. I used to think that we could dumb things down only so far. I was wrong, the bar gets lower all the time.

    RedBeard and mjd4277 Thank this.

Im still trying to figure out how some of them even pass a DOT examine and get 2 yrs at that. I love the ones who drive with a bucket of KFC on the dash followed by 5 dogs and a pair of sweat pants that look like they have not seen a washing machine since the 70's. We use to be back in the day the Knights of the Roads who helped our brother truckers and even broke down 4 wheelers now they just pass by.

Indeed. And now I'm preparing for a move. After 32 months as a Fleet Manager at the "big company in Chattanooga with red trucks that was an early adopter of automatic transmissions" I've taken a job in the panhandle of Florida as a Fleet Supervisor at another trucking company, supervising a dedicated account with my drivers making store deliveries out of a grocery warehouse.

Despite my lack of a college degree, I've been given an opportunity to move into a supervisory role with a nice pay bump. I like to think it's because my experience, attitude, and results are worth as much as a college degree with employers. In 2015 when my Prostar bankrupted me, I would have never dreamed that I'd ever be where I am today. I'd like to thank @jdrentzjr for the business mentoring that he provided nearly a decade ago when I first thought I might want to buy a truck, and all the drivers here for what they do every day. I want you to know that, right now, at least one manager at a trucking company has put in his time behind the wheel and remembers the challenges and frustrations of OTR trucking.

mjd4277, jdrentzjr and MACK E-6 Thank this.

Ok well the reason why all these company treat use like #### is because there Training companies that pay there graduat drivers 36 cpm for a year of training. To be honest i quit trucking after 3 years of BS, and i know a lot that are too and going lease because of the freedom they have but just a nother way to pay you minimum wage and have you pay for the other BS out of pocket....soon Trucking companeys will reap what they sole.
