If you never go there then you'd never know what the possibilities are and you're talking out of your rectum instead of thinking logically based on experience. Therefore any opinion you express has no relevance in reality.
Baffled by the range claims

Zzzzzz. Oh, you’re still babbling about your average mobile accomplishments? To someone who will never be impressed with these antecdotes? That’s the sad part, you dedicate so much time to all this to get results that aren’t impressive.
I’m sure here comes some diatribe about phase angles, heterodyne, soil conductivity, NVIS, and a bunch of other techno babble. Then you’ll swell with pride after typing it, thinking your opinion is fact. And I will laugh as usual, unimpressed.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Likewise when you say you can talk DX on channel 6 and you aren’t down here doing it on that barefoot radio.

You guys won't be the next Abbot and Costello ... you need more practice and better writers.
Slowmover1 and rabbiporkchop Thank this. -
My goal this whole thread has been to get you to say something along these lines. Success at last.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

You act like it's such a difficult thing to do and you act like it's such an accomplishment if you were capable of doing it. You missed the point completely. If your radio has no range at all it's still possible to talk skip. What's the point of having a radio that dominates Channel 6 but is incapable reaching out more than 10 miles? It's completely pointless.

Anyone who is on channel 6 running thousands of watts is grounded and bonded, their whole mobile is one big antenna. Its why they mostly use those long flat roof suburbans or vans.
Just like when I ran a general lee and an amp in my patrol car. The block was grounded, the body was grounded, the trunk had ground straps all from the factory. I ran some extra ground straps and a spare battery grounded to the trunk frame.
I ran a wilson 5000 trunk lip mount on the rear, scraped the paint for the set screws, and knocked the trunk catch over to always make contact. I ran the amp off the spare battery. That car was one big directional antenna. I could talk local and dx very well.
My base is an Imax 2000 ten feet off the ground. It should be great for dx, not great for local. I have no radials and its on a tilt over base. Right now on low 31 I can talk to stations 10 miles west, 25 miles south, and 70 miles to my north barefoot. I bought a ground plane kit and will raise it a little more to quiet it down because these fiberglass antennas are noisy. I might run a groundplane next when this Imax snaps off.
My stuff works well for my needs and the folks I talk to regularly.Last edited: Jan 25, 2019
