Ahh Conneaut. That's where my in-laws live. I miss seeing Quad Graphics trucks and going to their facilities. Awesome people. Every time I see one of those trucks I always wonder if that's Miss Della rolling by. She was a trainer at Millis and went to them. Great lady, they got a gem.

I went down to my TA this morning to warm up Miss April and was inspired to give y'all a reminder about alcohol. It's that time of year. Some guy came in whining about frozen nozzles on his washer fluid system. He chewed out the very sweet girl at the counter because they didn't have de-icer. That pissed me off, because those employees are my people. I grabbed some alcohol off the shelf and added it to the items I already had on the conter, then handed him the bottle. I explained to him what it was for and how to use it. He refused to take it and said that he was afraid to do that because he was afraid that his company would find out and have a problem with it. Ok rookie, do whatever you wanna do. I tried. Take your anger out on someone else, don't mess with my ladies or I'll drop you on the floor. You can't fix stupid. Pretty sure your company would rather see you adding alcohol to your washer fluid than wrecking a truck that costs $175k. Retard. Stuff like that is why I hate company guys. Will alcohol harm your system? Yes it will. It will dry the rubber tubing and eventually that tubing will need replaced. It'll cost about 20 bucks and it'll take a couple years before it's a problem. Do the math. $20 vs $175k. I'm not a math genius, but I'm pretty sure I can make the right decision here

RELAX lol. You will have plenty of time behind the wheel. Every single person that goes to Millis school has been in your shoes and the success rate Jamie, Bill, Steve, and the instructors from Eden and Burleson is pretty #### high. And guess what, IF you were to fail your CDL exam when you take it, as long as you've been showing some improvement and willingness to practice, they are still going to send you out with a trainer and you will test again later. I understand its hard to do, but quit stressing so much that's just going to hurt you.
Basically every student I get in my truck oversteers. If I had a $ for every time I tell my students "less is more" I'd be able to quit this job. Little moves 1st, see what the trailer does from those little moves, and then do bigger or smaller moves based on your trailers initial reaction. 1st thing you have to learn to be able to back a truck up successfully is what the trailer is going to do with whatever move you make.StyxxNC, Farmer54, BullDozer-( and 2 others Thank this. -
Just passed my test Friday after training in Eden. Was nervous as hell, but got it! He set up our CDL test appointment the first week, and I was thinking "no way"... Lol. It feels like trying to drink from a fire hose the first week, but if the trainer says you're on track, then trust that you are.
On a side note, they NEED to ditch those skirts for the CDL testing. Makes the alley dock much more difficult when you can't see your rear axle position clearly.Steelersjunkie Thanks this. -
But but but.... It might cause the engine to blow a gasket... Or something!Steelersjunkie Thanks this.

Ugh I can't ####ing stand people that take their frustrations out on some poor cashier that's just trying to do their ####ty job and go home. That's one of the many problems I had with my trainer. He always wore Millis shirts too which pissed me off because whether or not he wanted to or not, he was representing all of us when he would go and yell at the poor McDonald's cashier because he thought they were taking advantage of a "captive audience" with their prices. Because that poor girl totally set those prices, right? Just like that poor girl at your TA was totally responsible for them not having any de-icer. People suck.

My trainer was the same way. He brought a young lady to the brink of tears over a stupid shower credit. I was so embarrassed. She called him an a-hole as he walked away. Hilarious. A manager quickly came over to scold her, and he looked pissed. I reached across the counter and first bumped her as that guy got close. I apologized to the girl for his behavior and told the manager "she was right, he was wrong. And he is an a-hole". They both chuckled at that.

It's my opinion that they need to ditch those skirts on every trailer. But you're definitely right about testing. The view you have is definitely limited because they are there. I'll blast this trumpet all day long until someone notices. Ditch the stupid GD tails and skirts, and ditch the fixed 5th wheels. You folks in Black River are welcome to look at my fuel reports. Your setup is an unnecessary headache, and my mpg is way better than yours. Game, set, match. We have stuff on our trailers, but it's minimal and unobtrusive. Like the Stoughton trailers that Millis will occasionally lease.Last edited: Jan 27, 2019

You will get plenty of time behind wheel before going out with the trainer. I think you said only 3 or 4 in class? Hopefully since it’s going to be cold you can do 3 or 4 backs in a row before switching out with another classmate. I’m sure Jamie will have another truck out there to stay warm in while the backing practice takes place.
