Hey yall, been doing this flatbed thing for a year. Doing well, mostly happy, #1 driver 9n a dedicated account. Just wondering, if i wanted to see if this is the best i can do for myself and my family. Where do you look for jobs outside the mega fleets?

there may be some local companies near you or with in say about a 50 mile radius.

simple, do a google search on flatbed, or van or refrigerated companies.

apply online, as many times, they do not want the offices jacked up with people.

you can also try various LTL companies near you, some are union, some are not.

and you can even try walmart, provided that you live in a radius the require from a d/c center.

    best of luck to you..!!!

Thanks man, googling local companies seems to get me a ton of paid adds, but i see your point. I want to be limited by my own abilities, not my company....if that makes sense...

Do a search for flatbed companies near you, check yellow pages. If you find a small company, it may be good to go in person. There are still some small company owners out there that appreciate someone who's willing to do the actual leg work rather than fill out an online app.

Bypass the normal Google search. Use Google Maps instead. Zoom in to the area you would like to work, then search for "flatbed trucking" or "heavy haul" or something similar. Suddenly the map will be populated with icons and a list. Each one has a rating, comments, a phone number, and perhaps a link to a web site.

That's how I found my current gig, with a company with less than 30 drivers.

Just ask around at the truckstop and on CB about who is short handed and how they are to work for. Wont take long to get the real scoop on each place. Drivers are never satisfied so if you find a few that're content at a company you know they gotta be good.
