I started with CRST in Jan of last year I drove for them for 7 months. The first 6 were not the best on pay cuz I was a new driver comeing in. Overall they are a good company to get your experience but my advice is get your licence before you go they will help you pay back the school and your not locked in with a contract with them. Pick your co-driver wisely talk to them for a few hours if you can get to know who you will shareing that small space of a Columbia with. Above all be ready to sit alot when I with the trainer we sat almost as much as we were moveing. just beware of getting in to a contract with them or any other company. Do your best to get a year under your belt then the job market opens up wide.

    Hi.

    Good post.

I am interested in going with this co.

I much prefer to be in a team format.

What is it like when you are teamed up with another driver...?

Does the truck come equipped with an electronic navigation system?
I dont know if i could ever get good at reading maps.
How much sleep do you get when you are a team?
Is there a motel setup option for you're off time days?
like,i'm in pa and if i wind up in,say, ark or missouri,i would'nt want to drive myself back to pa.I would rather just stay at a motel until i get another driving route assignment.

    Thanks.

they are an ok company all of the trucks that I was in when I drove for them were very basic. you wont get a hotel/motel unless the truck is broke down and needs to be in the shop. the home time is alright they don't like to give out dead head miles at all. If you do go with them do your year and move on.

Okay. This is a good post but when i said about motels what i meant was,.. In between the 3 week driving assignments. Like when its time to have a week off. What then?..Would i be able to just sleep in the truck still, even though i'm off for a week...?

Like,if i'm halfway or all the way accross the U.S and thats where my 3 week driving assignment ends, and its time to now have a week off,i would rather just stay where i am instead of driving all the way back home.

Could i just stay in the truck for a week until the next 3 week assignment is given...?

If not, then,i guess i'd have to just go ahead and find a motel that's nearby to stay at for a week until my next 3 week assignment is given.
Even if its quite expensive, still better that than driving back home 1000 miles or more in my car.

Heck,i'd pick staying where i am if its anything over a 500 mile drive back home for that given week off.

fist off there bud, you not gonna get a whole week of with crst or any other company that i know of..?? if im not mistakin you get 1 day off per week otr. I went up there to iowa a few months ago to train and get my cdl's and sign that god forsaken 8 month contract but i was lied to alot about crst. just so happens the morning after i got there my son got sick (3 months old) at the time so i had to come back home. now i considering between w/s, carolina, and crst as a last resort just to get my ##### in the door of the trucking buisness, but hey i havent heard nothin to bad about crst, just make sure you bring alot of money with you when you go to iowa at least $1000!

Yea so far CRST has been good to me and I have a real good fleet manager. Now it is true that you will be sitting for quite some time i've been at the flying jay in Dallas for 2 days now but they are working on getting us a load.

Do they still push team driving with a stranger ?
    Not talking about training period.

back in 06 when i got a cdl. The recruiters hounded me about teaming.

I met up with a pretty cool guy from my area to be my co driver but they usually encourage you to talk with people in orientation and school to drive with.

here's another question i need to ask.
assuming, they want to train me some more upon joining the crst company,or any other co. for that matter,...what if you just dont make the grade and they determine this while you're being trained...?

I'm just saying and i'm asking because,i know they're training is like 5 grand or something like that and i heard obviously if you quit you owe them the money for the training and they send you a bill.

also,if you mess up and they obviously decide they have to let you go,they give you a bus ticket and send you home and then they send you a bill....now,i ask this....if say,me or someone i knew, was getting trained and me or this person just couldnt make the grade because, lets say,me or this person apparently just werent cut out for doing this kind of job.
Maybe i'm bad with directions and not good at reading maps and/or maybe the other person i was going to team with just doesnt exhibit good driving skills.example...not good at backing up into docks.

I mean,if you sincerely try hard and you dont hit any signs or anything but you're simply not skilled enough in whatever particular thing they need you to be better skilled at,do they still send you a big fat bill upon departing you from the company...?

its just stuff that i feel compelled to ask because,if they were to still send a bill for the training even though you tried you're best and you were a carefull driver but just not good enough in whatever,to make the grade as they're hired driver,do they still obligate you to pay a big fat training fee bill even though you're stuck without a job....?:biggrin_2554:
