landstar you deal with agent's and get loads from them to start out you will be using a load board and calling them directly to book a load , you can build relationships with agent's and get loads that way . landstar doesn't own any trucks of there own or have loads of there own so you are not in competition with company trucks and the agents do not work for landstar they are independent contractors . you need to like dealing with people, from what I can tell there are more better paying loads in the landstar system but there also cheaper ones . you can make pretty good money just working the load board. the problem with the landstar system is dealing with the agents if your not used to dealing with people and different personalities. it's hard booking loads on the weekends or after buisness hours as most agents are closed , a few of the bigger ones operate 24.. 7 ... which helps some . it takes a little time to figure every thing out I think it's important to learn what loads not to take more than which ones to take . schnieder works off the computer and you find a load click on it and it's yours so no agent to deal with or hours to worry about . but schnieder has thousands of company trucks so you are in compitition with them ... from what I've seen of the Schneider load board the selection is not as good as landstars especially western States and the loads seem to pay mostly in the medium range ..... but on the computer click on method you are not building any type of personal relationships with agent's or even company personal which works better for some people. ... I think you can be successful at either one myself I am leased to landstar and very happy there . but found my way around there system easily. probably still a third or more of my loads come from the load boards . I have regular loads that I do and regular agents that I work for, and mostly use load board to fill in the gaps . I am at the point where I do 90%landstar loads and very few Brooker loads which actually haven't done one this year yet most of my problems have been with Brooker loads ( slow loading or unloading ect. ) some pay good but I just try to avoid them but they are needed at times. I couldn't imagine going back to a dispatch type system I am partial to landstar but if something happened here I might try schnieder
