Plus, if you are asking that basic of a question, I highly suggest you going and getting the green book and read it from front to back.
At the very least read Part 395 located at eCFR — Code of Federal Regulations -
Yup, go off duty. IE your driving back to your home with out a load. You can post yourself as off duty and it no longer applies to drive time.

My follow up question because I cant find it is what is the rule regarding checking in at a customer? I log it exactly how it's done meaning if it takes me 2 minutes my logbook shows two minutes. I'm constantly battling my company with this and would like to show them that the regs do or dont specify a required time meaning you must log 15 minutes to check in and and 15 to check out which is what they say

It sounds like you're using paper logs if company says minimum 15 minutes. That is the only advantage to electronic logs, e-logs go by actual time, paper only allows 15 minute blocks. However, think this through: pull into shipper/receiver log goes from DRIVING to ON DUTY, set brakes, walk in check in, walk out open doors set axles move and park in dock....can you really do all this in 2 minutes? Probably not! This could be why company says 15 minute minimum. Basically the same time once loaded or delivered coming out of the dock.

Technically no, but people will only know what you tell them.otherhalftw Thanks this.

Why can’t check-in to check out just be part of the same line 4 block?
-
I use Elogs. I go to a lot of places where you literally walk in they sign your paperwork say dock 2 and wave and say have a nice day. If I go to Walmart and it takes 15 minutes I log 15 minutes. I called safety and they said what I said to do it as I do it.

I put check in as my first logged event and log the check out separate as it occurs. So my log looks something like this.
Check in 10 minutes
Sleeper berth customer loading unloading
Check out 3 minutes
Vehicle and safety check 2 minutes
Than I go about my day
