As the title says, I have a Paccar engine and just recently when I start to pull a hill with a load on me the engine stop lamp will come on and when i get to level ground it will turn off. I thought I was low on coolant but its where its suppose to be. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Low coolant that moves away from the sensor resulting in stop engine.

A wire has rubbed through and shorts out resulting in stop engine.

Those are the two that I’ve experienced before with this issue.

Could even be EGR not working properly under load.

Can also be something as simple as a loose wire, i had this happen the other day the engine shut down warning light came on and all sorts of other lights it turned out part of the fan belt had let go and when it flew off it tore out the wiring on the water coolant censor. However if the light goes off when you've hit level ground more then likely it was the coolant level changing as you drove up a steep grade. Although i've been up heaps of steep grades never ever had the coolant warning or engine shut down come on before.

It could be anything in the world. You can keep throwing darts at a board, or just get it hooked to a laptop and find out what it really is.
