First let me start by saying that I stumbled across this site over the weekend and was amazed at the amount of knowledge and the willingness to share. A rare thing now days.

    Now on to my questions.

    1. After putting 1.2M miles on a 5Ek, I replaced it wth a 6TS Cat reman. Is the 6TS block stronger than the 5EK? How Much?

    2. I am curruntly running at the 550hp rating, Pittsburgh Power box and a Mich Stage 3 Turbo. It runs fair but I'm looking for a better setup.:biggrin_25511:

    3. And just a suggestion, maybe put the build up info in a single thread and list the steps in order. Such as 1) injector codes, 2) change turbo, etc. Just like a recipe card for horsepower. Just a thought.:biggrin_2552:

ahhh, the answers you seek are in threads already.....alittle reading will get you what you want to know

or you could just wait for DDS, Caterpillarwrench and 550 (if/when he makes a return)

I don't know that block strength was an issue on the 5EK even. They had more of a problem with crankshafts breaking. But even on those,if you have a new damper on the crankshaft pulley, and an add on balancer,I would'nt be worried about it.You have a 6TS set at 550,I am assuming you have the 58 injectors which is good, get the trim codes changed to 5232 for better throttle response, and I am also assuming you do not have the marine cam, that is one of the best upgrades you can do to an E motor. Also,do you have somebody that can change fuel settings in your ecm?As far as the turbo goes, that should be good for now.

The 6TS is way stronger than the 5EK, you can safely build 1000hp with out worrying bout cracking block. The 5EK becomes a liability around 750hp.

Thanks all for the replies. Caterpillarwrench the reason I asked about the block strenth is the 5EK block cracked at the oil galley behind the oil cooler. What a pain. As for the trim codes, I changed them yesterday. As far as getting ECM reprogramed I haven't had time to look, but have some ideas. What program? The marine cam is in my future. Need to get back to work fist. Been a long winter.
550 Thanks that makes me feel alot better.

Does anyone know as to what psi and hp level the Michigan stage 3 starts to run out of air?

When I was running the stage 3, Michigan told me to not exceed 50 psi boost. I told him at that time i was running 53 psi on level 4 on the box and he said, "oh jezzus!......try to keep it under 50." The stage 3 is supposed to be good for 800-850hp .

I upgraded to a Stage 5 and added some more fuel w/ a different set of injectors now it runs 52-53 psi on level 2 on the box w/ the stage 5.:biggrin_2554::biggrin_2554:

    Hey 550,

You probably have the same factory boost gauge that I have. It's funny seeing the needle swing all the way down the bottom and come back up the left side till it bottoms out hard against the bottom of the pin at 0. I was going to swap out the gauge for one from an 04 accert (0-60psi) but I haven't bothered because I had the digital readout on the Pittsburgh display.
