If I am sitting on side of road broken down most likely I have walked back to nearest parts store to get the parts, then I will be working on that junker again right there. We can not trust anyone anymore even the ones who stop trying to help. I have stared into a gun a few times, aint no joy.

Reread...it says she "basically took her own daughter hostage". I believe he drove to try and keep her from harming her own daughter with the flare gun.

I owned a GT version of that from Plymouth in about I think the 89 model year. I had that one a few years, only problems were two, oil line which is a plastic line to the right side of the mitibushi built 4 leaked and threw oil to under hoold after 70K and a grommet missing from factory at antenna, interior was flooded first day. Dealer replaced everything at their pocket under warrantry which thankfully I had. The grommet was supposed to be under antenna on right front.

It was a very good 135 mph car, 4 of us in there with air going and still room on the tach in 4th of 5 gears.

I will forever miss the Colt line before the bastardized Neons came along, they were very good cars for what they were built for and limited in some ways.

Flaregun, = magnesium burn Im not sure what the human body will do with one of those inside of it. But it's sufficient a threat.

In the old times Ive stayed with many people, sometimes on their last day on earth. The ones I hate most is the fire. They burn. It would take me about 15 years after I stopped trucking to eradicate the mind of the night terrors. However after a certain point we pretty much stopped stopping unless its absolutely human to have to stop a minute when its clear someone really needs it.

I remember one night north of Ashland in a driving uphill rain on 95, all lanes bloated with 80+ mph traffic shoving and pushing. I blasted past a minivan with a very old man standing between it, on the white line a foot from me waving a pocket cloth for sneezing. His wife I must assume was halfway out of the van in a bad position.

At 80+ I did not hit him, but I cannot tell you for sure, what with the rain that shrouded the trailer tandems and 4 more behind nose to tail.

To this day I wondered about him in the dark that night in the rain. No one cared to stop. Even if they wanted to, you really did not want to stop and totally chance essentially closing the highway.

I'll take my chances, if I see someone stranded or needing help. My gut will tell me to stop or not. Unless I carrying an escort load and have a black suburban behind me, and a armed passenger beside me. But if I stopped under those circumstances. Chances of any thing bad are hey slim.

But hey my truck does not have a glove box. And I do t have a flare fun either.

He'll can't even use road flares anymore, can you?

Shoot a flare gun off for assistant and you may be facing arson charges from the fire u started.

The thing to remember is that by law ( did I read it in IL code?) a person is required to render help. My take on the matter is that I also would listen to my gut feeling about a situation before offering help. After all, if someone wants to hijack a truck, they can do it when, least expecting, I park it at a rest area to stretch my legs. This story, however, makes me ponder again about being armed while on duty. Perhaps, bar some ex- violent convicts having CDL, they should allow to carry arms but only after some profound background check of an individual. Unfortunately, the recent events of idiots shooting each other at truck stops to satisfy nothing but their egos do not make it sound like a good idea.

    Edit:
IMHO. Legal or not, I think it is good for the general public to know that some loaded trucks may be armed enough to cause lethal harm in their defense. It makes them not so easy targets and any potential scumbag will think twice before trying to rob you.
