I drove for 4 years then decided I would go back to school and get an office job. After 4 years of college, I spent 10 years stuck in a cubicle, dealing with office politics and drama queens. I worked hard though, and was promoted 4 times.
What did all that hard work get me? Laid off, that's what!
I have an excellent work record and many office and financial skills but now, I can't get a job in an office to save my life. Most office jobs around here are clerk jobs barely paying 20k. Every time I apply for one of those I'm told I'm over-qualified. There just aren't that many good paying jobs around and since I live in a college town guess who companies would rather hire - someone fresh out of school who will work for less than half of what I need since I have a family, that's who.
So before you jump over the fence chasing that greener pasture, just know that the grass isn't always greener.
I'm going back to driving if I can get a job.MuddyWaters and rakusa Thank this. -
Your better off going; door to door, selling vacuum cleaners

Coming from someone who has not driven a truck....

It's tough to get into trucking right now.... Wouldnt you agree?
Your right !! I have only driven in school, BUT I do read these forums !
Have a great day -
There are some drivers on here that say don't get in trucking times are tough. Hello they are tough all over,,, might as well say don't get a job at home either time's are tough there as well. Might as well just bum around and wait on a bail out...
The point I am making is the reason a lot of people come out here is because the at home jobs are gone. At least out here you can build up exp and not have to uproot and move your family. One good thing about trucking once you build some time is you can live anywhere and find a job. You can't do that at home if there is no jobs there. Trucking will always be here. It pay's the bills. In order to build time you first have to start.
Some drivers get bitter and hate this life. They want to warn off the new guys. Problem is most of these guys have not been home to see all the local jobs fold. A man has to do what he has to do to provide for his family. The title of this thread is asking drivers if they are sorry they are trucking under exp driver's advice. -
Not only are the jobs at home gone , the trucking jobs are gone . You can't build up experience if you can't get a job . Tell the tens of thousands of experienced drivers out of work they can live anywhere and find a job .
"Trucking will always be here " So will auto manufacturers . You might as well apply for a job at GM . -
I truely understand what your saying, and I know you honestly believe what your saying..... But, It is still delusional thinking.
