It means every time when the driver is idling the engine to keep the driver cool/warm during overnight, the company charges x amount of dollars for "unnecessary" used or anytime they are not driving.

When it is cold, my company says run that truck. No questions asked. They have NEVER complained about my fuel usage. and My truck runs all of the time.
-
Well, unlike you we have found that there are others that have already experienced a given situation. If a company is deducting money form your check they have to have you sign a authorization for that situation. As much as I hate to agree to the Bear, you wiil need a labor attourney in most states. The only 2 I have had want to deduct was: 1. May Trucking for over idle, and they have a form you sign in orientation, 2. IWX for company charges regarding log voilations, Both I refused to sign and it was sign or quit at May, so I left there employment. IWX reversed there opinion on my voiltations, but others there sign it to keep there jobs. If a company is not treating you fairly why would you want to stay.

This is exactly what gets companies to try to impose charges. Im sure you never turn it off, good weather, not in the truck, after all your not paying for it right. Well you are, because the fuel money is using up company funds you never get a shot at it. Maybe idle bonus or what ever

Is this becoming industry-wide or just with a few companies? Do they give you a decent amount of leeway to keep comfortable or are they pretty strict about it?

If these companys would put apu's on their trucks. They would have no reason to whine about the idle time.
So far this month, my idle time on my tractor is .03%. And i have been out of the house since the 5th of March.
If i keep my ilde time 5% for each quarter, the company PAYS me $50.00Socy Grad Thanks this. -
The first word is the biggest.
Actually, they want to have low idle and NOTHING paid for it. Driver is the one that suffers. -
I dont care how bad the miles get. I will NOT suffer for any reason unles it is beyond my control, period. I still do all I can to keep my idle time low, but there is a line to be drawn, and I draw the line. Not the company. The first day I discover I am being charged for idle time will be my last day at that company. The days of cabovers with no A/C are over. For the oldtimers that trucked in those days, my hats off to ya, but dont say "I dealt with it, so you can too". Wrong. Times have changed.
My truck has a NITE system on it which is a bunk heater(that will roast you like a turkey) and an A/C unit that works good unless youre in direct sunlight.
The batteries for the A/C have ran down, so I am idling right now. BTW, NITE trucks are expected to keep a 5% weekly idle time which would be a sinch in the winter, but not so much in the summer while running 1500 miles weekly.
For those sweating it out in their trucks, I hate it for ya. We deal with enough out here, and we cannot even be comfortable while we deal with it?
BTW, Im in the country of California right now.dancnoone, kickin chicken and lilillill Thank this. -
Is it a payroll deduction or not paying a performance bonus?
Also.. do you have a medical condition that REQUIRES you to idle the truck to provide power for a medically necessary device such as a CPAP for treatment of sleep apnea?
If yes on the CPAP then you will be dealing with a discrimination issue for violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Good Luck -
I do not believe the Disabilities Act will be any help here. The company is not stopping the driver from getting a room if they need it. They just will not pay for it.
