No laws that I know of as far as drinking. You might violate a company policy, however. On average the human body will metabolize one oz of alcohol an hour. The average drink is considered an oz. 7 drinks are going to take the average human 7 hours to fully rid from their system. Personally, I would not cut my alcohol consumption that close.
Another point EVERYBODY that drives for a large company had better take into consideration. This industry is full of rats that will drop a dime on a driver in a heartbeat. With the advent of smartphones, everybody has a camera. Woe be unto that driver carrying alcohol into a truck and said driver having a video of the event being emailed to safety.

Actually part 382 states no detectable amount while in duty. Part 392.5 specifically states one cannot be on duty for 4 hours after being intoxicated.
§392.5 Alcohol prohibition.
(a) No driver shall—
(1) Use alcohol, as defined in §382.107 of this subchapter, or be under the influence of alcohol, within 4 hours before going on duty or operating, or having physical control of, a commercial motor vehicle; or -

Lol. So if someone drinks a 12 pack, which is 144 ounces, youre telling me that its going to take 144 hours for all that alcohol to be outta the system?Last edited: Feb 3, 2019

Think one shot liquor = one wine glass = one bottle of beer of beer rule. Similar alcohol, different serving size. So by the stated rate it would be maybe 12 hours for 12 beers.77fib77 Thanks this.

Yes, I am. Not 14 hours but on average 12. I did not say you would be "drunk" I said it would be in your system. These figures can only be averages because the alcohol content is different as so is body mass. This clock starts when you start drinking. So if it takes you 4 hours to finish off that 12 pack 4 ozs of alcohol have already been removed.
I learned this back in the 70s. I actually hate the feeling of being drunk. I also hate being hungover. My favorite drink was Bourbon and on the weekend almost always went through 4 or 5 shots over 6 or 7 hours. This way by the time I stopped drinking I just had a small buzz and really never got "drunk". I also never made the mistake of tossing back shots. I always used something to mix it with and enjoyed the taste. -
So there was a driver that came to the warehouse and checked in, the gal could easily smell the booze on him and assigned him a dock and called the law.
He was locked in the dock when the deputy arrived and checked on him.
He blew a .17 and they took him away.
I wonder what he’ll end up with.
And oddly he wasn’t driving for a Mega Company. -
A lot of people seem to be missing the having physical control part.
An Ohio State trooper once woke me out of a dead sleep, claimed he smelled alcohol, and gave me a breathalyzer. It read zero.
You have control of the vehicle if you have the keys. In my case the truck was running.
Also, it is possible to get a DUI even after sleeping after drinking. I know two people that has happened to. One was a driver. He was busted at the Evanston port of entry.
