As a company driver there are now no road expenses deductible for 2018 taxes. I called Swift to Check on switching to the company pay per diem. I was told that because I live in Washington state that I don't qualify. Anyone else having that problem?

My understanding is that it depends on what state your home terminal is in. I know if your terminal is in California you can’t get it. Not sure if there’s other restrictions such as what state you live in.

Swift offers a per diem. If you don’t qualify it’s because of state laws.

I switched from Otay Mesa to Inver Grove terminal this year. That was the main reason.

Be careful about taking per diem pay. It may not be best for you.
I only want it for specific reasons.

Yet another reason I leased a truck. As an O/O I still get the per diem write off.

No per diem for WA, OR and CA. Per diem makes W2 hourly wage too low.
