So I posted yesterday and felt like I needed to just start from scratch. I am new, no CDL yet starting from the very beginning. My husband drove for Prime for 3 years but has been locally driving a dump truck for the last 5. Trying to find the best course of action to get into a team driving situation, least amount of time apart and for the best price. Any ideas are welcome, and thanks ahead of time!

Maybe find a company that offers refresher course and will let him train you. See @Chinatown

Would love that if there are any. We seem to be hitting roadblocks everywhere...

What roadblocks are you hitting so we can give you some advice.Chinatown Thanks this.

There are a few companies that will take him right away, however they wont let me be a rider. If I go to one of the schools, they wont let him train me. Either I can go to school and find a company that will allow me to be trained by him, or we find a company that pays great and allows me to ride with him. Thats our goal

In your situation I would get with a company that allows him to do a refresher course because he has the experience & you're studying for your Cdl during this time. It might be tough financially (I don't know your financial situation). It's crawling before you walk because you both are starting something new. My wife and I going in that direction right know. I'm training her because we have our own truck. Be patient and map your plans out it will work out. It does take some research trying to find the right company fit. I hope all the best for the both of you.

I can't say which ones but some of those companies will allow you to become trainers after a few months. I clearly understand your situation not saying there are not good women and men teachers in trucking. It's a joy to "dectiate" (I mean teach) my wife lol. One company we looked into that we were going to sign on she would only do local runs for 4 months because she doesn't have the experience but we are going to take care of that.

At this point we may even be ok with finding a really good pay structure for him, as long as the company will allow me to ride with him. Then I can go get my CDL later. He is anxious to get on the road, and we would rent out our house to do it. SO, a short orientation that will pay great and let me ride along is the current goal.

My company, Britton Transport, allows riders for free and I think they are a decent company. They have a short orientation as well. They are a medium sized company but still small (115 trucks or so I think). After a year with them I bet they would allow him to train you and you could convert to team. Website is Brittontransport.com. Best wishes to you both!

Many companies won't make someone a trainer until they have been a trainer before and/or they have been with current company 6 months to 2 years.Team R Drivers Thanks this.
