    Hi please help, I have a 2006 Volvo d16
I was driving one time and it started to misfire suddenly, I took it to the shop they said it's injector #6, so they replaced it, when I picked up the truck from the shop I heard a knock in the engine, I knew right away that something was not right so I brought the truck back to the shop and they checked and said the injector #3 failed, they replaced that it started to work even worse, so they replaced the whole engine harness, it got better but the knock didn't go away, so I went to trip on it like that and when I was finishing up my trip it started to misfiring same way it misfired in the beginning, so basically nothing changed. I took it to the shop, even on the truck instrument cluster it shows that injector #5 is failing, so the people at the shop suggested to change out all injectors, so they did, I took the truck to trip drove 240 miles it starts to misfire again, and showing that injector #5 is failing, I bring the truck to the shop they switch out the ecm I test drove and its misfiring again and showing that injector # is failing, I've spent 11,000 on this and got nowhere, please if someone has any idea what this can be let me know, thanks, sorry for such long explanation

With all of that information a good mechanic should be able to narrow down this problem. You may have to make a trip to Chicago and see Nasriza. The shop that you are going to sounds like they are just guessing.

Most likely something going on from cam or head tell them to stop guessing and find problem but it will be an expensive problem to fix

Hello all! I'm walt in baton rouge and have read as much info as i can find on the volvo D16 engine woes....
despite all the negative stuff, i think i've also read that most of those problems were early on 2005- 2009 units.

Here's our situation..We are looking seriously at a one owner, 2010 volvo 780 with right at 100,000 miles with an attached race car trailer.
the tractor was used to pull this race car trailer since new and it looks immaculate and runs beautifully.

I contacted the warranty manager at a local Volvo dealership for any service history info.
    She was very helpful but...
There were several service campaigns directed at the D16 injector, egr, turbo/ actuator issues, but all of them expired without being applied to this truck. Not sure why...
So, NO dealer service done except for a brake actuator switch shortly after purchase in 2010.

Questions aplenty...Is such a low mileage tractor fixable? Is it even broken? What are the chances that this D16 has the new stainless conical seal injectors? When were they cut into production? if not, do we run till failure or replace them now? at what cost?
How about egr, turbo actuator etc? The driver is an ex porsche tech so sticking to a very strict turbo/ maintenance program won't be a problem....

thoughts please, ...I can send pics of the truck, VIN etc, if you think you may be able to help..

    thanks very much
    walt

Did you ever narrow down your problem and what was it? bad valve on # 5?

Nasriza i have 2007 volvo with D16 engine. it looses power for2 to 4 seconds under load when outside temperature is above 40 degree F and does it intermittently. But when outside temp is close to 0 degree it runs very smoothly. we changed ecm, wiring harness, turbo actuator, filter housing. Please help me.

The only thing that come to mind to check is boost and intake temp sensors as they will both have something to do with what I are describing any codes at all

Even though it is clean need to drive the truck when this happens and monitor all sensors and see what is throwing off and where the problem lies just had one yesterday after all this time actually had a bad throttle pedal on a Volvo. What is happening when u are on cruise control same symptoms or different
