Just replaced a VGT actuator that was giving abnormal update rates and software error codes for the VGT for a good customer on 2013 KW PX 9. I got a bunch of CAN line codes as well so i warned him this may not fix your issue with the VGT.
This truck had a really clogged intake, i replaced the breather filter and cleaned the EGR and tried my best to salvage all the sensors on the intake end of engine for him 4 months ago.
When i removed my VGT there was some oil in the cavity on the Gear sector side, is that normal?
It passes a hysterisis test, idles at about 93 percent, is that normal?
What is the idle percentages for different engine states?

There is no specific % for any engine rpm. It is all determined by the various sensors and operating state.
I would be more curious if the VGT requested % and VGT actual % agreed with each other.
A small amount of oil could be from the assemble grease. There are frost plugs in the turbo can can leak into the actuator but they are in the coolant galleries.
Why do you think something is still wrong with the turbo? Are you still getting codes for it? Low power? ect..spsauerland and Wannabe tech Thank this. -
Before i ran the hyeatrisis test, i was getting VGT sofware error in the in active code list.

You calibrated the actuator? Check the datalink? Turbo should read 120ohms. Engine harness should read 120.

Yes its calibrated going for a roadtest now, its stayed at idle for a half a hour no codes

Also load the power and ground to the actuator with a headlight and shake it down. I have found alot of engine harness issues on that engine.

Ya im getting on and off false readings on my intake sensors and i can see where the dealer tech where the guy had it last removed the ECM rubber protectors for the engine harness plugs for the ecm, the tech never put them back on, which makes me think this truck has had issues in the past

Not an easy harness to change, but if it is in bad shape then yes I replace. Cummins engine harness's are priced very reasonable IMOWannabe tech and pushbroom Thank this.

So far so good, on the VGT, one thing that alarm's me is all the can line codes im getting at the CAB Electronic Control Unit 3 pacar protocol diagnosis gateway.
