A local farm to me is looking to hire a east coast/midwest hopper bottom driver. Should i give up running coils for this gig? Only grossing 900 a week running coils from upstate ny down to tenn. And back.
Just wondering what my concerns should be.
Should i be excited or run for the hills
Switch to hopper bottom from covered wagon??

motocross25, Zeviander, BigCam9670 and 8 others Thank this. -
Just wondering if its even worth considering..with coils i dont wait very long to load or unload..an occasional instance but nothing too major...is that same for hopper? Farm says i can gross 1200 a week or more running monday thru friday
-
You better do your homework.
Are you hauling farm products only?
Are ethanol plants or pet food manufacturers involved?
Its really hard to say about average wait times without really digging into your business lol. Above 1200 is doable but not consistentBigCam9670, Oxbow, Rugerfan and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes farm products only I believe...single truck operation..he said he would be dispatching me at first then he would like me to have access to getting my own loads. Has consistant runs to and from farm to lancaster pa.

You always want better pay. $1200 is better then $900.
But at the same time. Monday thru Friday is a good deal. But how are the hours? Are you home every night?
Working long days sucks. -
At the very least home every other night if i just want to run to Lancaster pa. If i want to run can stay out all week and run as far south as ga and out to Indiana.

You’re only making $900 a week. Do it. You’re home every weekend and if it works great. If not, you move on. Gotta bite the bullet & take a chance rvery once in a while
Chinatown and chandler14 Thank this. -
Just concerned it would be a lateral move. Never done Hopper bottom so unsure if what it all entails. Load/unload times etc. 900 a week doing coils to tenn and back isnt cutting it though.

If you want to pull a hopper stay FAR away from ADM in Decatur Illinois.
