Well, they said they were going to upgrade You. I’d say they did. Let this be a learning lesson, ( I hate when people say that ). Stay away from the Megas. They don’t have your best interest in mind. Some things missing from the story, only You know what it may be.Doesnt matter, look out for your best interest, they did you a favor, You just don’t know it yet.

During orientation I joked about drinking on breaks on the road. I found out they don't consider it a joke. What moron would drink in a commercial vehicle, parked or not?

It shouldn't matter if it us in their book or not.
It is is the green bible that there is to be no alcohol in the truck and not within 8 hours of duty. To that end, this young driver has no excuse nor anyone to blame.
As far as the trainer/mentor goes, young driver now knows for a fact that there are guys out here who will screw you just because they can.
His career isn't over, he is just going to have to find something a little different to get his experience. Keep the faith young blood.

    Chill young blood.
You're not going to get any points by blaming anyone. You know that.
    Own what was yours.
As far as what wasn't, let it go.

Where does it say you can’t have alcohol in a parked commercial vehicle? And where is the 8 hour regulation located?

We beat this dead horse, and there is always somebody who thinks there is a blanket prohibition of alcohol in the truck.

Question 3: Does the prohibition against carrying alcoholic beverages in §392.5 apply to a driver who uses a company vehicle, for personal reasons, while off-duty?

Guidance: No. For example, an owner-operator using his/her own vehicle in an off-duty status, or a driver using a company truck or tractor for transportation to a motel, restaurant, or home, would normally be outside the scope of this section.
