Does anyone like to do cardio at the rest stops? I like to do some 100 meter sprints or so to get the legs moving after a long day on the road.
Matt43324 Thanks this. -
I just like parked in the back and then power walking to get my free 44 oz Dr Pepper from loves.... That counts as cardio, right? Lol
starmac Thanks this. -
Study after study has shown that sitting for extended periods is VERY bad for you. That sedentary lifestyle may even be worse than smoking. Lots of truckers develop degenerative discs in their neck/backs, hip problems, high sugar/BP, edema of the legs, heart problems, etc.
Where things really go bad is lots of sitting and then getting out of the truck and cranking dollies, pulling 5th wheels, opening trailer doors, etc. Puts tons of stress and strain on the body.
Best thing to do is take frequent breaks during the day, get out and stretch/walk, and stay hydrated with plenty of fresh water. Don't be the guy with the bag of chips on the dash and the 50 oz "bladder buster" mug filled with Coke/Pepsi/Monster, etc. That's just digging an early grave.JonJon78 Thanks this. -
Well, well, well. Today I started my cardio workout as an OTR driver, but also with a bit more consistent schedule where I usually take a 34 hr restart every week. I hope this time around I can finally pull it off. I posted a comment on this same thread a few weeks back, casting doubt on this idea.
I will also be fueling exclusively at TA/Petro via NASTC and as an independent owner operator. This will be providing me enough showers for this new endeavor. I ran some numbers, and interestingly, this exclusive fuel at TA/Petro should only be costing me “under 1k” per year; and that is because their new rewards program allows for up to 4 points per gallon, which should be giving me up to $800 in points yearly, not to mention the ability to use my shower credits for reserving parking and/or a meal under $14. This is, of course, only for those who can fuel at least 1,500 or 1,750 gallons per month. -
if theses trucking companies really care about they're driver like they say they do? let them customize gyms in the trucks
