Well, sat at the Denver terminal for a day and a half and now sitting at A/B. My load was supposed to be ready at 7am, but rumor has it that they are having labor problems here. Loads are running late.

For you watkins shepard drivers here:

Are you running an inverter? What size? Who put it in? How much?
What trucks do you guys have? Do you have a fridge? What brand/make?

I'm trying to get everything ready so when i get back from orientation I can spent the day or two with my family instead of running around all over looking for my things. Plus this will give me the next three weeks to shop around for good prices and do it over time so it doesnt kill me. My orientation is April 13th.

Any help from you fellow Watkins drivers would be great! Thank you guys and hope to meet some of you guys some time.

    wolcome to watikin :)
    ull like it here,
as for the inverters, u dont need anything bigger then a 2500watt inverter, u can pick them up easly at any truck stop anywhere from 110 - 175, cobra is a good one, mine is a 2500 watt with a 3000 watt peak, i can run my fridge microwave and coffee maker all at the same time..with the truck running, if u leave the truck off youlll kill the batteries really quick,
fridge can be picked up at walmart for about 60 bucks for a smaller one, and more for a bigger one, same thing for with the microwave, picked both of mine up at walmart and spent less then 180 on both of them,

we got volvos and freightshakers here, i prefer the volvo as they are nicer and quiter while driving. smooth ride, tho many prefer the shakers cause they have a bit more space on the inside, eaither way all the trucks are live-able, and do-able. depending on what truck u get, u may get one with an APU on it. but they are usually on the newer trucks.

    good luck

    EmersonSC Thanks this.

Thank you for the welcome and the words of encouragement!

Do you know what model/brand you got for the fridge? size (i.e 1.7cu ft)? Also, did watkins install the inverter for you or did you do it yourself. I know Roxy told me 1700w was the max but im sure theres ways around that :biggrin_255: .

Was that peak or 1700 continuous? That's a lot of amps, and an alternator shouldn't be run at full capacity; they need about 80% headroom to NOT BURN UP NOW...and also, at an idle, you won't have the full cap anyway. Electronics tend to get dicey when you push them at their limits or underpower them, so there is probably a reason for the ruling.
Keep in mind also that circumventing rules may cost you a job. The day of the noncomformist in trucking I believe is long gone; unless you're an OO.
