Father in law called me with an interesting problem today. The ranch has a bull and several cows stranded in a pasture. The snow is about 5-7 feet deep and the spot they're in is about 4 miles from the nearest road.
When they found them they were about starved and they've been hauling hay and water in there on snowmobiles since.
He has a D6 with 30" track pads but he thinks it might still get stuck going in. I know someone who would loan us a snowcat but that leaves us with how to load them. Tranquilizer darts and one cow at a time seems like a lot of work.
My idea is to fashion a set of skis for a horse trailer out of some old half fenders...beef them up enough to use tire straps to keep them on and tow it in with the snowcat. If we go that route it's going to be picture worthy.
@wore out since you're the bovine relocation expert of choice here maybe we should hire it done. You busy this weekend?

He hauled 3 rounds a week steel out of stubbenville to chicago single axle gas job white, tandem trailer 40k on starting out. Year after year. Makes me look like a pusssssssss@ nowadays! I sure enjoyed being a kid around them old timers.Feedman, Slowpoke KW, 4mer trucker and 13 others Thank this. -
Does the D6 have a dozer, or is it a farm tractor.
If it has a dozer you should be able to plow in and walk the cows out. It would take some time, but should be doable. Course with the wind the way it is now I guess it would probably blow in behind you before you could get the cows out.
Never mind, bad idea.Feedman, Slowpoke KW, 4mer trucker and 16 others Thank this. -
That's right it would probably drift in behind him. Be a lot easier if we can stay on top of the snow.Feedman, Slowpoke KW, 4mer trucker and 16 others Thank this.

I'm sure that prolly would have worked had he not met me at my truck to do said level 2.
And yeah once I start working for myself I'll do my best to dodge em. Most of the time I get green lit in this rig but not tonight. So far theres been 5 or so inspections since I've been setting waiting for a tire guyFeedman, Slowpoke KW, 1951 ford and 9 others Thank this. -
I personally dont think you should get a violation for a low tire. It was up when I left and has the required tread depth. Could've went flat on the journey and I'd have never known... if it went flat between the last time I stopped and now.

This 389 I'm driving ain't no problem to reach the passenger window. But it has the body mounted mirrors. And on the subject of pipes, has 2. One is a dummy cause it runs thru that #### dpf filter where the right hand step box should be. But it's a dang sure comfortable ride. Plenty of leg room even for my 6'5 self.
